Feral Cats !!!

I knew that would get your attention, imagine those mean and nasty cats in our outback!  Recently I was talking to a vanner couple who had just crossed the Nulabour, and she said she saw a fox terrier on the side of the road, stopping and in the process of getting out to help the canine, a pack of wild dogs followed. 

Not mentioning the destruction to our native fauna ( no they wouldn't do that) what about these solo cyclists camping over night, and others sleeping on the ground, could be quite dangerous.

I have slept in a swag in all states of aus, from very remote to not so remote and never felt in danger from any animals or people. just need to be aware. As for feral cats, they do eradcating, but humanely. Seen some big feral cats in my time

I wrote a post on reddit actually r/Sydney, about something that happened to myself and my dog, local to us about 30km away. We were attacked by a pack of feral dogs. It was avery tense and dangerous situation, where when the alpha attacked me, I stabbed it in the neck, in the process of losing my Bowie knife, being stuck their. The dogs all retreated, and I heard them howling about half an hour later, so I take it the alpha died. We were committed to where we were staying, and I remained awake all night armed with a homemade spear and a well lit fire. I have seen many a pack of feral dogs in my region, before during and since, and expect to have another encounter eventually. It is a worry here in the New England, but luckily I don't always cycle and camp in this region.

 A feral Dog hunter (Ranger) who works Barrington Tops, Great Dividing Range NSW, told me that his worst problem at that time was a Fox Terrier gone wild, cunning and fearless.

 Wild Dogs can be a problem for humans even in semi-rural districts. I was told about how big Pig hunting Dogs let out for exercise on a small property on the Fraser Coast Queensland raced away out the front gate of the property and ran down the road passing a young mother walking with her baby in a pram, she was of course very frightened when she saw them coming towards her. But they did not stop.

She phoned the Council Rangers to report the incident but by the time one arrived the Pig Dogs had returned home. It was discovered that they had killed a couple of Wild Dogs (not Dingo) further down the road that probably had been stalking the mother and baby.

I watched on U-Tube a pack of African wild dogs bringing down a Hyena. A dog is a natural pack hunting predator, on their own with an owner (Alpha ) they are relatively harmless, as a pack in the wild would be very nasty.
Anyway I just posted this as a interest subject, I have never seen a wild dog.

Interesting it is Ian however, I always thought 'feral cats' were in Geelong VIC. As too are 'feral magpies' in Collingwood VIC.

Hi Doug.!!!

Easy as it goes on the Magpies. Why does it appear that, and I repeat appears that, every one dislike the Mighty Collingwood.

Me I am a NRL fan, but I guess that someone has to support the Magpies in Melbourne, so count me in.

I have never seen a live feral dog even when camping frequently out on the wrong side of the "dog fence'". Must be because my very fierce 2kg chihuahua scares them off.
