Finally after a long time with only a few short trips (for various reasons)since Christmas, we are heading off on Monday to the Kimberley's.
Planning on taking a couple of weeks to get North via the Inland Hwy and then spend a couple of months looking around, then another month coming back via the Coast road.
So please look out for 'the Bald and the Beautiful' (on our spare wheel cover), and come and say Hi or have sundowner drink round the fire.
We will be free camping most of the time so hopefully we will meet some of you GN's on the way.
Ya not wrong Bob, sure is freezing here in Young NSW. -3 tomorrow morning. Time to head north myself and will be very soon. Townsville is on my horizon though Bob.
Travel safe mate. I'll try as well.

We're hoping to head north next week too but on the other side of the country. Maybe we will bump into Dougwe. Sometimes the best intentions just don't pan out how you/we think they should.
For all those on/soon to be on the road, safe travels, and to those stuck on the spot, take care and keep warm. Cheers.
Wandering around Central Qld for work the last 2 days. Every third vehicle seems to be some sort of RV heading north. Checked out a few camp sites while I was at it. Starting to fill up in the popular places like Agnes Water. Most surprising was the amount of heatseekers travelling off the main drag (Bruce Bumpway)
Doug,
Bad news! I heard the Met Bureau chap saying today that it's going to be cold by the weekend - down to 15 degrees (minimum).
As usual the last couple of weeks have been nice - even picked up 10mm of rain too.

T shirts and thongs here in Kwazulu Natal maybe we will get some cold stuff soon but at the moment its perfect winter weather. We are probably on the same latitude as Brisbane but the weather seems to be more like far north Qld. anyhow enjoy your travels and stay safe on the road.
Cheers BB

Do research on Maunder Minimum, that is a decline in solar activity, the Sun not as active resulting in cooling of the upper atmosphere and therefore the Earth.
The last ended a few hundred years ago and was coming to an end when Cook explored the East Coast of Australia in 1770, the northern hemisphere was much colder than the southern hemisphere at that time, winters were longer most years and in England, London, the Thames River froze over and Horses and Carts could be driven across the ice safely; "Little Ice Age".
According to sources such as the British Met Office the developing Little Ice Age could span fifty years or longer, nobody can accurately predict the timing. In Australia temperatures will be much lower during winters than we have experienced since colonisation in 1788. Before the politically based climate change global warming hoax commenced during the 1980s Russian scientists observed and calculated the Maunder Minimum approaching during the 1970s, Time Magazine featured the next Little Ice Age in a 1976 edition. Russia has been preparing in various ways including a new fleet of new ice breaker ships.
A book worth reading is Twilight Of Abundance written in recent times, it outlines food shortages and deaths from extremely cold weather in the future. Is it any wonder that northern hemisphere countries have been looking for agricultural land to buy or lease in Australia as the growing season shortens in their homelands?
In fact people around the world, Asia Pacific Region in particular, need Australia to extend the WA Ord River Irrigation Area into the NT and NQ, the CSIRO identified land the area of Western Europe for irrigation farming, just add water, the northern dams the Federal Government was planning circa 2013-2015. And other dams to drought proof our country around the nation.
Obviously based on past Earth experiences, Earth Cycles, there will be warming cycles ahead of the Maunder Minimum period, as there have been following Ice Ages and Little Ice Ages past.
The land we call Australia's climate zone is always changing over time, around 130,000 years ago rainforests covered Australia but they retreated when the drier climate developed and were replaced with what we now call the Bush. During the last Ice Age the indigenous people sought northern regions and many camped around a lake now known as the Gulf of Carpentaria. And other places.

No problem there as will be able to sleep at night. The days are lovely and warm and humidity down to us Mexicans though so all good for me.
Maybe we could catch up at some stage during my stay. September is still looking warm for me but only just.

Will keep a lookout. Enjoy.
winter sure is here. moved on from kandanga qld. It was freezing. 0. Stopped in at gympie n bought winter clothes.
Beautiful weather in Katherine NT at the moment. Heading for Lake Argyle on Saturday. Enjoying the warmth but have to be home in Perth early July. Not looking forward to it.
All these posts about how cold it is in this thread and in the techie section...Qld etc...two heaters...buying fan heaters...minus degrees blah blah,
Gosh,
It's 11 degs atm here in sunny Tassie
Lol
Much as we enjoy travelling to other areas we equally appreciate what's on our doorstep and enjoy the seasons. In summer we water ski, in Autumn we spend time in the best regions for the colours and in winter we snow ski - all in one small state. Off to a very cosy country pub tomorrow, log fire, hearty meals, red wine and good company (Oh yeah!). Variety is the spice...

Freezing here at Forster NSW this morning. Weather Bureau said it was 7C but no way. It was much colder. Up the road at Port Macquarie it was -4C. That is really cold for a coastal town.
I can't wait to head back up north and leave this area to the penguins. Never felt it so cold here.

It's been colder on the Mid Coast NSW, not long after WW2 Wallis Lake was covered with a thin sheet of ice a few times early morning. There is from time to time snow on Barrington Tops, part of the Great Dividing Range and heavy frosts have been experienced on the coast.
The BoM have not accurately reported the cold of the past few mornings on the Mid Coast.
Snow from Victoria through New South Wales into Southern Queensland, along the Great Dividing Range and western slopes, Orange NSW has experienced snow for a few days, Blue Mountains west of Sydney has road closures.
And more to come.
Maunder Minimum, solar activity in decline, again, possibly leading to the next Little Ice Age not too far ahead.
