we are heading up to kakadu in June. which caravan parks are good to stay at? and do we have to pre - book or can we just rock up and there be a vacancy?
We stayed @ Cooinda Lodge Kakadu last year and found it very good , it was August so it might be busier when you go..... ld pre book and ask if you can extend it if needed ?
Don't want to be a spoiler, but my mate went there last year and he said Kakadon't.
Not many gorges open as they hadn't been checked for crocs, visitors centre no idea, you could go 100 k over roads that are rough and find the destination closed, very poor review.
Leitchfield NP better in his opinion.
Very dry wet season this year, not sure about waterfalls, swimming etc..........do your homework
JU-AL,
Check with the relevant authorities, tourist info centres, Jabiru before going.
If you are towing a camper trailer, stay in the 4WD camp at Litchfield - it beats getting all hot & sweaty walking back up the hill to the caravan park.

It's all about the money $$$. The indigenous have outsourced all of Kakadont, Yulara, Uluru, & Kings Canyon to the Accor hotel chain who spend zero on facilities.
It now costs $15 per person per night just to free camp in Kakadont. Accor come around to every known camp site in their vans at 6-7pm each night and demand a cash payment.
Just go to Litchfield instead.
Unlike land that the warm and fuzzy brigade demanded we give back to those we conquered 230 years ago, the NT government has modern facilities and no charges on their parks.
