Having lived in the middle of suburbia next door to a truckie who parked his prime mover beside our common fence and headed off to a shift EVERY morning between 3am and 4am, 6 days a week. I say there should be something like this in a lot of areas.

We live in a southern beach side suburb of Melbourne. There are lots of caravans ''stored'' on nature strips where we live.

There are also sometimes caravans parked in streets when people are visiting relations/friends,

There doesn't seem to be a problem at all.

The City of Casey isn't too far away from us.

Obviously they're looking for an excuse to raise a little revenue to fund the decadent lifestyle of their ''champagne elected representatives''.

My apologies to Sarco,I thought you were pulling our legs,so I checked the council web page .The fees are there ,but I hope it is meant for vehicle storage sites.(truck /caravan storage) The council web page is not very clear about the rules but the fees are very clear.......Peter.

My local council has two local laws that deal with Nuisance and Industrial/Machine noise that would and does deal with that kind of situation.

Having to apply just to park a large vehicle appears to be a common tactic of councils these days to make money.   Cannot see any other logic behind needing to apply to park a caravan on your own land.

Storage areas or your own back yard, it's just yet another way to get more money from their residents RIP OFF!

The Council must need more money to help pay for all the gourmet sangas during meetings and staff training sessions.

I'm getting to the stage of being ashamed to tell people I was in middle management of Local Government for close on 30 years. I was the odd one out though as I wanted to help the community not rip 'em off. Some would say I fitted the bill.

I hope this idea get's filed under B at the next Council meeting.

Just wait until other councils get wind of this. Gold digging.  As i age i hate greed more and more. The more i hear of greed, the more convinced i am, that i never want to live in or own a home again. Open road has many advantages

It clearly applies to private residential properties, nothing to do with commercial storage. It's just an outrageous and typical council money grab. Next we'll need a permit to hang our washing out, or maybe pay an annual fee to breath the air directly above our property...s'truth, we used to joke about that.

"Can include" - so is my garden trailer a "large vehicle"?

There is no definition provided anywhere, so it is a nonsense.

Cheers,

Pete

Hopefully at the next Council election the people in that area will VOTE ALL COUNCILLORS out that voted and support such a law.
The reality is this could effect ALL caravan/Rv/camper trailers owners etc etc in the future, in ALL states.
Once one council approves it others will slowly come on board if they see money can be MILKED from us ratepayers.
Scary thought, but then it probably won't effect us oldies when/if it does finally happen(will take time), just our kids..........think about it!

If the council decides it is, it will be!

It will include anything the council decides it includes. The list is just to start people thinking.

That said, it is a sad money grab from the council, and the members deserve to be removed, and residents should resist and refuse to pay en masse.

It sounds like a good thought out exercise, for revenue raising

They seem to have cast a wide net

I can only see one loophole for my situation, and that is, as Peter (Peter and Margaret) was asking
Exactly how long, is a long vehicle, which may be a truck/trailer/caravan

I do not class my Motorhome as a long vehicle, as I have seen longer
I also class my Motorhome as a recreation vehicle

They are classing a recreation vehicle as per the description below
I can only sympthise with the people living in that area, especially if they have a motorbike/buggy/4WD/etc

Izabarack, my story is from Brisbane in the early to mid-90s. Unfortunately there were no specific noise bylaws or laws in place at the time or we would have used them. The birth of my daughter, a friendly chat from a police officer (family friend) and a well placed police car all contributed to a change of habit.

umh! this idea could kill most of the caravanning industry, both caravan sales and caravan parks, including those that happen to be in the offending councils' LGA. a very bad idea that needs to be stopped in its tracks (pun intended).

I think you all need to go back to the source source document being the Local Law and not a poorly worded application form

Note the EXCEPT ..... registered as Motorhome , Caravan or boat trailer

This was clarified by Casey Council on the radio this afternoon on 3AW. The legislation applies to large trucks only, not caravans and trailers. Apparently it was an incorrectly worded piece of legislation.

So what if you built a shed if you have the space, and put it in there, would you have to pay then?
