When we've been in that general area around Kingaroy we've stayed at Apex Park in Kumbia about half hour drive away. Not a large area, flat and good toilets, but big enough as usually only a few there at the one time. If you want power there are a few power boxes and you just put in a coin for however long you want (we did last time as we got there after dark). The Alwyn Francis Bridge rest area is between Kingaroy and Kumbia, haven't stayed there ourselves but there were people staying there when we drove past to go to Kumbia. Cheers.
A part of Kumbia Apex Park. There was a bit of debris around as we were there a couple days after that wild weather went through the area early October (I think) last year.
If you are thinking of staying at Chatsworth free stopover here are a few comments from our recent overnight stay. The rest area is supposed to be 20hr max stay. It appears that this is being ignored by the council and permanents. Toilets are OK but I would give them a 3/10. You will need to get there early as you may miss out on a place. The rest area does not do justice to Gympie. All it needs is for the council to get off their collective backsides, get rid of the permanents, get a grant to improve the place.
Hi Rocket, The Alwyn Francis Bridge free camp in Camps 10 says for Big Rigs and the area looked quite large when we drove past. Apex Park in Kumbia isn't all that big in area but a 25 foot van would fit if everyone parks sensibly. There was a big 5th wheeler there the first time we camped there. Usually motorhomes, caravans back in parallel with the fence on the left of my photo (the fence is around a children's play ground) and a couple bigger rigs park on the other side in front of where we are. We've stayed at Chatsworth a couple times too. Very crowded when we were there and we parked parallel to the side of the entry road as did a lot of other people. There used to be a free camp at the other end of Gympie as well and we'd stayed there too but some years back. It's been a couple years (2016) since we've been to Gympie so don't know the set up at present.
Just a" by the by" if you are looking to go up into the Bunya Mountains you need to go via Maidenwell. The other 2 roads in aren't suitable for caravans. Cheers.

Hi Rocket - I assume you are staying at both Kingaroy and Gympie. One is about 2 hour drive from the other. Doable in a day trip, but too much to see in either place for a day trip. If you really wanted to visit both places from the one camp, there is a really good donation based one in the centre of Murgon 48 hour limit though.
