First time forum user. We are a young couple who have just bought a Jayco freedom poptop and are looking for a free or cheap spec to test run the baby before we quit our jobs and live the nomad life. We would like to head down gippsland area for fishing this weekend. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Also we are looking at heading out over Easter as well.... but it seems that I am out of luck finding any sites for the caravan over the holidays... Anyone know of a sneaky spot that we Could fish and relax anywhere in Victoria?
Hi Ash, You will love the camping lifestyle but unfortunately in Victoria over Easter everywhere ( especially near water ) is packed as it is also school holidays. We usually wait for a couple of weeks after Easter to get away. Rod.

Couple of good spots just past Wilson prom, "Welsh-pool" lots of free and low cost places there and also a very good caravan park at the end of the pier phone up for a booking you may be lucky , "port Albert" free camping just past welspool.
"Shallow Inlet", free camping and a couple of caravan parks, all excellent fishing spots.
Pomme.
What about a free camp beside the Snowy River as you head to Marlo?? You could fish in the river or take the short drive to the coast. Great area. Get the WikiCamps app on the phone and it will make it easy to find free camps and all the Caravan Parks of course. Good luck and enjoy the experience. As mentioned, Easter will be a problem. Cheers, Bob

I live in Gippsland but I am not sure what part of Gippsland you want to go or what type of fishing you are looking for. Anyhow, a couple of suggestions:-
1. Mitta River Bridge north of Omeo at Glen Wills on a sealed road. It is on the river and you can fish for trout. The camp site is free. It is park like with short grass underneath the trees. A good bush toilet is provided together with fireplaces. Nice spot for the kids. Nearby is Jokers Flat which is similar but the short gravel road into it is a little rough in places. They are only 10 minutes apart.
2. Cobungra River. Camp at Blue Duck. Again a sealed road. Plenty of free spots on the river, similar to the Mitta Bridge area. A hotel is within walking distance.
3. Wingan Inlet. Situated past Cann River. A small fee is payable. Usually plenty of camp spots. You can fish the inlet or walk along a track for a short distance to the surf. A sealed road to the turnoff and then a good gravel road into the inlet which takes about 1/2 an hour.
4. Victoria River. Situated just off the Omeo/Mt Hotham road. A sealed road to within 1/2 km of the camp. Very nice bush camp with toilet and fire places. Fish the Victoria River for trout.
5. Hart Morass Sale. Camp on the river on the road that leads into the Hart. Good free camp spots along the river and you can fish the river outside your van. A sealed road leads to the old Swing Bridge and it is then a short trip of less that 1 km into the camp sites. You will not be able to enter the Morass as it has a locked gate and there will be duck shooters there. I have seen caravans camp at the Swing Bridge but I am not sure if they are supposed to be there.
Thank all! We ended up at Bear Gully campsite and then Seaspray Caravan Park for our first trip away. Some small teething issues... the mountain bikes were not tied down properly and bounced into our back window and now we have to replace the back window, but all in all a success for our first time out!
Might wait until the kiddys go back to school before we head out again- Trev, thinking we may head to all your suggestions!!
Nice that you went to Bear Gully. Nice spot. Sorry to hear about the rear window. Did you drive around to Walkerville South while you were there. One of our favorite places near us. We always take visitors there to show them the lime kiln ruins etc.
