Anyone with suggestion for new tyres for Landcruiser 79 towing full time 3.2t van

Hi, its time for us to change the original Dunlop tyres of our 79 series, we are now full time on the road towing a 3.2 t caravan , we would like to hear from anyone who may have a similar set up and do some free camping on gravel road ( no hard 4x4) .

What brand are you using and what mileage are you getting out of them?

looking forward to hear from our fellow travellers as always.

thank you

Hi,

Asking about tyres is like asking about which beer is best, everyone has their own opinion..... which is perfectly valid.

Myself I am running Hankook Dyno Pro tyres on my Dmax and have done so for the past 8 years over two Dmax utes with nil problems or flats over that time. I have the stronger 10 ply tyres.

For a slightly budget buy I think they are fine. I mainly do bitumen and tow my caravan with this vehicle.

If I was as I used to be, an avid 4x4er with a lot of off roading/gravel roads then my choice would change to BF Goodrich tyres in either All Terrain or Mud Terrain.

I have used BF Goodrich tyres since the early 1980's on Nissan's and Landcruisers in 4wd club scene and regard them highly. Admittedly i've had the Hankooks past 8 years due to very little 4wding.

Cheers AL

Bridgestone AT D697. I use these now, LC79 also. Used these last 9 years, GVM 3.7 ton and loaded. 60psi work perfect on rear, 40PSI on front.

Prev in NT on Pajero for 260,000 km used Yokohama Super Digger (replaced with something now) Geolander I think - didn't like them at all.

Tried Coopers,,, went funny with tread wear uneven across tyre tread,, rang Coopers,, bad luck.

I get about 60,000km out of bridgestones, very happy with them and Bridgestone service centres as well.

x2 for Baz (Bridgestone AT D697).
My Patrol is heavy & I average 53,000kms on these tyres - generally they would have another 10k in them for town driving but not for highway speeds. I run 44psi in the back, 41 in the front with our van on the back.

My hands up high for the Bridgestone AT 697 LT as well.

I am only tomorrow Friday, changing all 4 Coopers that I have never been happy with to the Bridgestones.

My research here and elsewhere has all headed to these tyres, so on they go.

Thank you all for your suggestions, we agree that it is a personal opinion relating to individual experience but it good to see 3 out of the 5 replies came up with the same brand , we will be looking into those as they were not on our list for consideration.

Cheers

What ever brand you go for make sure they have a recent production date no longer than six months. One company tried to sell me brand new tyres that were two years old.

They are all quick to tell you to change every so many years, then tell you their tyres have been stored well.   Just saying.smile

+1 for the Hankook Dynapro's love em and can get them at a decent price as well. Often have specials and scored the last 5 for $200 a tyre.
