Hi all. Can anyone please tell me the best generator 3.5 to use that is the quietest on the market. Will want that size to run an air con in the caravan. Thanks.
If you run a search on the forum it seems most people won't go past the Honda which will run most of the commonly fitted Aircons. It seems that the Eu2.2 will run most aircons as long as other high draw equipment is not in use.

Today I had my electrician here to certify my new van. One inlet, one safety switch and one double pole double power point. The power point is primarily for the portable Mistral airconditioner.
The aircon label states 880W. So, I wrote to Yamaha to ask them if their 1kva genny would run my aircon. They replied that the dtart up wattage would likely trip the genny and advised to seek oit the 2kva unit. But I already have a 2kva kipor that is too heavy for my lightweight van.
So mentioned all this to my electrician and he decided to plug in the aircon to 240V to see what amps/wattage was used on start up.
Turms out max start up wattage was only 580-600 settling to 510 following.
So a 1kva genny would power it.
It taught me a lesson- some labels arent accurate.

Two questions :
[a] is the 800W it's cooling capacity? or It's rated power consumtion?
They are not the same thing!
Your Electrician? should know that starting it up on mains power is not the same as starting it up on a small low powered generator

One could put a box around the generator to reduce noise.
One could leave the box around it and leave it on the shelf in the store, much quieter and save a heap of cash Solar, inverter and batteries are very quiet and very popular. Every job we do the first question is, how long can I run my air con, second is either the big coffee machine or the microwave.

Just to get an idea of prices one would expect to pay for a generator to run their air con that they can turn on from inside the van. So not a pull start and not one you have to take out of the locker and set up with an extension cord.
Just trying to get an apples with apples idea of a generator compared to solar, battery and inverter. The inverter set up is ready to go at the flick of a switch, so the generator would have to be the same set up to be any sort of a comparison.

No matter how quiet the model, they are still noisy things that destroy the peaceful tranquillity of a place and make you a pariah in most camp grounds.
Better off getting heaps of solar and a couple of hundred AH of batteries.
But I still carry one because sometimes you are forced to camp in the shade.
4-5 hours from fridge low voltage disconnect (11.2V) to floating of 2 x 120AH AGM deep cycle batts
Runs my Ibis 3 and Projector charger set to 35 amps, or AC and microwave, or AC and electric jug, and is just as small and quiet as the other Name brand red or blue gennies that are actually assembled in China and use Chinese built Subaru motors.
One third the price, more features, more power, longer run time.
Will it last as long? Who cares, I can buy 3 of them for less than the price of one.
