ISUZU MU-X 4WD

I dislike comments claiming a vehicle is the best written by an owner, but it can be handy to read owner experience reports;

My MU-X has just been given the 60,000 kilometre manufacturer's recommended service, vehicle purchased new in late 2017.

While the book recommends engine oil and filter every 20,000 kilometres and a general service every 10,000 kilometres I have the oil and filter changed every service.

A secondary diesel fuel filter is the only modification I have made.

The only repair under warranty required so far was to fix a hydraulic oil leak from the power steering system which was discovered by the Isuzu Dealer in Darwin early in 2018.

Dennis, Ron,
Do you have an auxiliary battery installed? If so where is it located?
With the D-Max, I can be installed in the back & away from the heat of the engine compartment.

No auxiliary warren in our car I dont need one the car alternator charges the caravan battery very well, but with these new smart alternators you need the latest type of 12v to 12v charger .

I don't have an auxiliary battery installed in my MU-X and have no problem maintaining the caravan battery charge and running the refrigerator on 12 volt while travelling.

There was an electrical problem discovered in my Jurgens Skygazer electrical system, warranty recall that I missed and found out about after the repairs were carried out by the auto electrician. They were surprised to also find the main electrical cable from the plug to the battery and system was made from several joined together lengths.

And, sorry I can't be more specific but I am not an electrician, I was advised that the caravan wiring was unsuitable for the Isuzu diesel engine alternator, in other words not providing the energy level it is capable of providing. This was rectified when the should have been warranty electrical issue was fixed.

Hi Knight. I have an Isuzu D Max and it is the best car I have ever owned. I also have the oil and filters changed every 10K and (touch wood) have not had any problems whatsoever.

I have a manual and don't go above 4th gear when towing. I really enjoy my ute.

Hi Ron, Knight,
I use my aux battery for the car fridge - when I carry it.
With the larger van, I leave it out of the car when I have the van in tow (saves weight) & rely on roof-top solar to keep the van battery topped up.
On our last trip south (recently), we used the car fridge all the way - leaving the van at home.

I agree with you chaps on servicing - now with long services, one wonders what the engines will be like. Perhaps that's why some new cars have 7 year warranties - when the warranty period is up, you throw the engine out. A fellow Nissan 4.2L TD owner told me a couple of years ago that I'd get a million kms out of my engine if I looked after it. Has 443,000 on the clock now & is going very well. My joints will wear out before the engine does!

Warren Iam mechanically minded and used to own a service station when I was a young man,I dont think theres anything wrong with the extended oil changes on modern vehicles,my old uncle was a farmer with his cars he would buy them second hand and never ever change the oil,I thought he was nuts, but they never let him down it amazed me.
