Hi Golden years,
I don't know much about the bottom of Yorks ..someone else may help.
I sujest you travel down the eastern / middle of the peninsula to Innes national park and on your return come up and pop Into all the towns on the western side.there is not much or any free camps on the peninsula. On the west coast is Pt Victoria an important old shipping town. Also Moonta / Kadina /Wallaroo. Just above Pt Victoria is a little town called Balgowan..a nice place ( no fuel or facilities so fuel up in Maitland ) 100kph limit
on the roads of the peninsula. Just abt 30 kls after you turn arround the big roundabout after Pt Wakefield there is a spot called Pt Arthur (or Jackson) where you could free camp overnight. It is on your left and comes up quick...so be ready to slow down and indicate in advance. Bakeries are good in Pt Wakefield too .

Les, You can get a camping permit from here yorke.sa.gov.au/discover/things-to-do/bush-camping/camping-permits-and-fees/ $150 for a month $50 a week or $10 a day.

Council Locations yorke.sa.gov.au/discover/maps/camping-locations/

Or a bush camping permit which has little information, you would have to ring the Council.

hi kebbin yes been to york peninsula a few times but never stayed at hillocks ... will avoid the permits as there are a few cheap camps at point Julia and 2 showgrounds there .. and Arlington ... these permits deter a lot of people !

thanks for info

The $150 for a month permit works out at $5 a day, now if that's to dear I wouldn't be travelling.

Port Julia $60/wk is dearer than council $50/wk or $150/mth.
Can get council permit online, better than fine from the Rangers
as they take photo of vechile as proof if no permit.
