Yes, and then they wonder why people don't pay.

This extra charge for a vehicle always gets me, on top of any camping fees.
Surely if you are camping then that should be included in your camping fee, then say $8 per vehicle for day visitors not camping
But then even at say $24 a night camping(2 people) without any facilities is a bit over the top.
NPs would be happier if no one came me thinks.

If on pension you can apply with NSW NP and get an exemption on the
parking fee. You have to reapply every year and it doesn't matter what
state you live in, I'm a Queenslander and had one for years now.

I'm in two minds over this - based on Qld experiences.
1. Yes it is too dear for basic facilities.
2. It costs NP&WS big bucks to maintain the roads.

For anyone visiting Qld NPs north & west of the SE corner where you get hot water in the showers, multiple rangers, etc, you get one ranger (perhaps an assistant) to look after up to 3 National Parks, the same basic facilities + some of the roughest roads as well!
I have suggested to my local (next to useless pollies) that I would be happy to pay a similar amount as in WA's system IF the roads & facilities were upgraded.

For birdwatchers, QLD NPWS discourages them by "restoring the park to the way it was before white settlement" - meaning dams, tanks are drained & destroyed. So the birds disappear & NPWS wonder why we don't go back!

Darjak, I suggest you check the conditions for the NSW NP`s exemption. The exemption does not apply to camping, it is only for day visits up to 4 Hrs. I had mine renewed last month.

So read the fine print.

When did that start? Previously you did not have to pay the day use fee when camping if you had a NP annual pass (pensioner or paid.)

Section 8 of the concession pass terms and conditions. This pass does not include access to sites that charge a landing fee or to other fee-charging activities in parks such as camping. discovery, museum entry and tours.

I do not know when this started. The 4 hr only applies to a couple of sites, not all sites.

Have I read this wrong?

Seniors discount annual park passes

If you have a current Australian Seniors Card, you can apply for approximately 20% off the full price of all 4 annual pass types. The Seniors discount doesnt apply to single or multi-day tickets.

How to apply

To apply for a Seniors discount pass, youll need:

A completed NPWS annual pass order form (Doc 152KB)
A copy of your Australian Seniors Card (front and back of card)
A copy of your vehicle registration. The name on vehicle registration and Seniors Card must match.

Eligible Australian pensioner or veterans card holders can apply for a 1-year NSW National Parks (NPWS) concession pass which gives you free motor vehicle entry into the 45 national parks that charge entry fees.

Who is eligible to apply for a concession pass

Australian Pensioner Concession Card holders
Holders of an Australian Veterans Gold DVA Card embossed with EDA or TPI
Holders of an Australian Veterans Gold DVA Card without EDA or TPI, who can provide a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs confirming a disability pension of 70% or higher, or an intermediate pension

I phoned NSW NP`s, Yes the passes do exempt the payment of park entry fees when camping.

The way it is described in section 8 is misleading.

How would we know if you read this wrong when you did not provide a link to what you are referring to.

I go to the pages to apply for a concessional pass. I get to the page - Learn more about NPWS Concession Pass - and click on the terms and conditions link and I see "8. Lost, misplaced or unused passes will not be replaced or refunded."

How would we know if you read this wrong when you did not provide a link to what you are referring to.

The conditions are supplied with the renewed pass. As I stated before, the wording is as I put in an earlier comment. Just read what I posted.
