Brought the van in WA, south of perth, dragged it all over Wa (home for about 5 years). Then dragged it bag to tassie and used it for annual holidays. Got back on new years day and decided to put it on the market. Prepared for a six to eight week sale time (think plenty of time to clean it out. Deposit in the bank withing 3 hrs, picked up 12hrs later by a guy at the other end of the state. Spent the best part of the night cleaning it out. Off to the middle of the state ttommorrow to look at a coaster.
Sad to see the van heading down the road (told the buyer if he heard voices telling stories in the middle of the night not to believe a word spoken
Well done Blaze. That reminds me of when I sold base camp 4 years ago. Advertised Monday PM sold and full payment made lunchtime Friday same week, gone by Sunday.
Happy searching for the Coaster.

I hope the search for a good old Coaster works out. The difficulty as I see it is the "old" bit. Age, as in rust, has caught up with most of them now And staying anwhere near the ocean has done the rest !
Brought a ex hippie coaster today, high kms but runs well for an old diesel. Come down from Cains to tassie. Rececenly had pink slip in Cains so don't see to many problems changing rego over to tasie. I will just about gut it and set it up for 12volt only, no gas or 240. will fit flushing toilet, shower and 12 v fridge, solar. Its an 87 model. All up I reckon I can get away for about $12k, I set off to check out another one, decide to look at this one first (run the poor lady at 6.30 am and drag her out of bed)
cheers
blaze
as for rust, non visable and the likely rust areas have signs of being well maintain
Now at $14k as she who must be obeyed wants a full set of walls for a flemma f45 awning. I just wanta sail track which would have given me a couple of options of either a shade cloth or a vynal section, both about 4mx2.5m with ropetrack which I already have
cheers
In 87 it would be the virtually indestructible 2H 6 cylinder diesel, fitted to diesel Landcruisers of the same vintage. The 1HZ engine was introduced in the Landcruisers in 1990 and Coasters around the same time.
Now all you have to do is join the CMCA and one of the local chapters for some good advice.
Not sure which end of the state you are, if from the south I can recommend a great chapter. If from the other end I can only recommend you move to the south.

I am in the best bit of tassie, know as the real gods country. the far Norwest.
I am so very close to the cleanest measured air in the industrialised world.
The soil is so fertile they grew babies in it (where didya think the storks got them from).
The temps never too cold or too hot
It rains when needed but doesn't flood
I could go on but then every bugger would want to live here
There is a special interest group within the CMCA for bus motor home owners 'busmotorhome@bigpond.com'. Most of its nearly 100 members are Coaster owners and builders/conversion experts of their own motorhome. Might be worth a look
