In mid Feb we are heading north and the one road we know little about is the Monaro Hwy. We are towing a 16ft van with a Pajero Diesel and curious about the climbs, should be OK but wondering has anyone done it recently and the Camps book doesn't list any stops along the way. So I guess we will just hope there's a nice rest place or 2. Looking forward to being bush and leaving Melbourne behind us.
we do it towing a 23' van on a yearly basis with no problems - last came down it in November. Only about 60 k's of hills and they are not too steep. Can't recommend any stopping places as we usually make Bombala our first stop from Lakes Entrance. Cann River has a nice bakery with plenty of room to park . Also a free overnight parking area. Nice little caravan park in Bombala. The road can be busy with Bonacord trucks, so we usually travel it Saturday or Sunday as there are not a lot of opportunities for them to pass.

In the direction you are going the only good pull is just after you pass the Imlay Timber Road turnoff. It will only make your tug work a little hard if you get baulked at the intersection.
Stopping places: WikiCamps has a few. The first one is 36 km from Cann River - Flat Rock Creek. There is a wide shoulder on the LHS of the road between there and the border, I can't find it quickly but it is obvious when you reach it, we have used it as a tea stop a few times. The next is the Border Rest Area, 1.3 km after the border, it consists of a few sections of the old road left behind after they straightened the road. The final one is 950 meters down the Imlay Road, Coopers Rest Area, access may be a little difficult but there is a cleared area a bit further down the road across the creek. Look for the cleared patch in that map. None of them has dunnies.

Thanks everyone for all your tips you've given me some confidence. I wasn't looking forward to a steep winding narrow road. Now looking forward to being back out there. That was just one section I was unsure of. Thanks Bru
