Stone Stompers v Rock Tamers

Just wondering if there any opinions on Stone Stompers v Rock Tamers? Im looking at both and would value any opinions on them.

Stone Stomper is the best available IMO. Stops stones from rebounding back on the tug, keeps stones and dust down low. I suggest you fit mud flaps to the front of the caravan after the Stone Stomer mat this directs dust and stones down onto the road reducing the stones and dust from going under the caravan. Just my findings after trying all other types of stone guards and flaps. Make sure that the exhaust of the tug is directed away from the canvas flap or as I have fitted a stainless steel deflector plate to the SS bar.

I have tried all sorts and ended up with stone stomper on an A framed car behind motor home. It is the fact the dust stays down low and under the car so no filthy windsceen and blocked air filter. Looking in the reversing camera when trvelling along all other stone deflectors had a rolling cloud of dust between the units, stone stomper has none.

Hi all
This has been discussed on every forum I visit.

The outcome is a very big plus for the Stone Stomper on ALL forums, not just on how it performs, how easy it is to put on and remove, quality, but also the service Christian the owner provides.
We have had 2, unfortunatly each van is different so you need to replace them if changing your van size, usually.

Another tip, on a dirt road, remove it immediately if you get any rain. What happens is, the mesh gradually fills up with the heavier mud and in time it will sag and "possibly" drag on the surface while driving thus damaging the mesh. My brother inlaw can confirm this, and his new StoneStomper.

I think a big negative on the Rock Tamer "types", is that unless they are installed at the correct height they could hit the road and throw stones/rocks up onto the back of what your towing. I have seen many of these on the back of vehicles adjusted wrong and am very glad I don't have that type. Road surface and suspension critical with these types, in my opinion.

regards
Ian

I use the Stone Stomper (Trampoline)  on the Avan.  Both the ones I have are homemade. I have never had a problem with them dragging or touching the road when I am turning.  Also days of wet dirt roads on numerous occasions have not caused any grief.

I find it directs a lot of dust under the van that would rises between the tug and the Avan without the trampoline fitted.

I have mine rigged a bit different to the commercial made one.  Works extremely well and has done since 2011. Made a new one (Same Pattern) 3 years ago with some minor modifications and threw the older one away. It was still in good nick as well.  But only suitable for my rig.

I'm running Stone Stomper now as the Rock Tamers (no matter how I adjusted them) showered the van with stones and rocks, not to mention the stirred up dust!
I have Rock Tamers going cheap if you or anyone wants them. $100 I'll say no more.

I have a DIY trampoline style stone suppressor between the tug and van and a full width mudflap under the van just behind the A Frame. I would always recommend the Stone Stomper over the Rock Tamers.

Stone stomper for me. Had mine on since caravan was new 5 years ago and no marks. It wont stop the rogue stone from others obviously.

good comment about the mud , hadnt thought of that , nor the idea to put mud flaps under the van . My axle does have a lot of chips so one day I might get the energy to fit some

If I were to buy a guard, it would be a Stone Stomper however I've made both (having Scottish blood in me) - but nowhere as good as the bought one.

The current one is a take-off of the Rock Tamers but is not adjustable. Cost $28 for four HD Supercheap mud flaps, a piece of 25mm sq tube (approx. $7), a couple of bits of light angle iron, a second hand square U bolt plus some time.

Effectiveness is 100%

Have used both, Stone Stomper win by a country mile. Got heaps of damage to tow vehicle and van using Rock Tamers.
