Could be the element. Gas...give the gas a good run though the system then light all jets on stove run for a minute then turn them off. Push the gas button on the fridge for about 15 seconds and let go. Leave to rest to allow gas around the back of fridge to go. Then try and start on gas normal way.

The other thing is to make sure van is level side ways and length ways. CV fridges like to be level.

Might not work but worth a try.

Hi Dougwe,

We ran the stove, oven and hot water on gas before trying the fridge, van is slightly leaning backwards so will level it up better tomorrow and try again. Will let you know how it goes, thanks :)

Has it got 12V to it? Whether you're cooling on gas/AC/DC it always needs a 12V DC supply to the control electronics for it to operate. In some vans this is wired so it's always on, and sometimes it's switched.

From new 7 years ago, ours has sh#t itself twice on gas & twice on 240v.

Repair costs almost total the price of a new unit.

Anything over 30 degrees & they struggle to keep things cold.

Yes, have done the search but didn't find anything helpful. We had the same fridge in our sterling which we sold to buy the one we have now, we lived in the sterling for 7 mths last year, thru all the heat of summer and it didn't miss a beat. We have a caravan repair man coming next week sometime to do the repairs from the hail storm we had in October so if we can't sort it out ourselves will have to get him to look at it cry

Check all electricity trip switches and fuses on the board. make sure there is power/12v/240v.

That is only true if it is an AES (Auto Energy Select) model.

As no model number is given we are all guessing as to what the problem maybe.

Model number M2553, 150L Dometic , didn't get any manuals with the van :(

Have you touched the Temperature control, since bringing the van home.

Why I ask is that if this knob is broken behind the front panel the Frig temperature cannot be adjusted, is there any heat coming out of the outside panel? when running on 240vac or gas. There should be some mechanical resistance when turning the knob.

Have you also confirmed that the Frig plug is in the 240vac socket and that there is power to this socket.

Have also added a US diagnostic manual (though I haven't studied it)

Edit ... re PinSA's response ... I have had a couple of those knobs on mine break. I now carry a spare of the longer one. It's a PITA when they break.

I discovered that the powerpoint to the fridge was turned off, turned it on and it tripped the power so evidently something wrong with the electrics in the fridge. We'll get the caravan repairman to look at it when he comes to do the hail repairs. Thanks everyone for your advice smile

Also the MES (Manual Energy Select) models with automatic ignition. Basically any models with an electronic control module and automatic ignition need 12V DC supply to operate. However it's a moot point as we've since learnt that the OP's fridge is not.
