Replacing Atwood water heater with a Suburban water heater

Has anyone replaced their Atwood water heater with a Suburban water heater. I bought the new van at an auction & therefore no warranty. Unfortunately the Atwood water heater doesn't work at all. No gas, 240v or 12v,these are getting to the unit. I've replaced the electronic control module and the 240v to 12v relay and tested everything with a multimeter. Still wont work, so the last straw is taking it to a caravan repair place to see if they can fix it. Whilst the repair bloke has worked on these Atwood's before he is not a fan of them & stated that if he cant get it going within an hour, he will recommend replacing it with a Suburban (however these are smaller) and I will have to take it back to him well after Christmas in February, but I want to go away before then. He will then have to make up a flat plate to go over the larger square hole. I'm not a fan of this and I wont be getting another Atwood either. So thinking of putting a suburban in myself. So has anyone done this sort of swap before on their van.
