Caravan fridge'

Looking for info on our situation with our fridge. Its a full size single door 300L philips. Problem is it uses too much juice on 12v even though we have 3 100ah batteries as well as 3 mounted solar panels meaning our 2400 Yamaha genni gets lots of use when freecamping.

On our last trip 2 weeks ago we took a wrong turn and ended up on a very bad corrugated road shaking all including fridge even after doing a speed of about 15k. Upon arrival at our destination, fridge wouldnt go. Thing this may be a blessing in disguise and thinking of buying a smaller 2door. Maybe a good second hand 240v - 12v only. Are these fridges normal household units with a inverter and is it difficult to install seeing im only replacing a unit with all gear I believe still ok. It appears that every second house I look at has a caravan in it and many grassed in. Any advice much appreciated.

Cheers to all.

Jeppo.

I'm no expert John cos I know the definition biggrin  That said, you are leaning in the right direction. First things first though. How many watts worth of solar do you have on the roof confuse

All that said and guessing you have around 360w up on the roof which with that and the batteries you mentioned should be enough to keep a 180lt two door 240/12v fridge in power for your goodies.

Good luck with it all and hope you sort it out.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

maybe look for a 240v inverter fridge, they use less power than ordinary 240v fridges

Hi
With a heavy user [fridge ] 200watts MINIMUM per 100-120ah
In theory 200watts harvests 48ah in 24hrs [PEAK SUN HOURS psh 5.5hrs of sun at 100% per day] donot confuse with daylight hrs.

This equates to using 50 % of battery capacity which is 3 x 100ah =150ah available
U can only use what u can recharge

Fridge options
invertor style seem popular in far smaller size
150-200ltr seems popular

Thanks for your advice. Much appreciated. Can't believe how difficult it is to get ahold of a good second hand fridge. Like I said earlier, seems plenty of old vans lost in weeds everywhere I go. Thanks again for your advice. Cheers.

As stated before, thanks to all for your advice. Think from all said that I will get rid of current fridge and hopefully obtain a good second hand 150/200ltr fridge that I should be able to simply change over even if I need to pay a sparky. Cant believe though after searching , how difficult it is to find one. Thinking of starting up a caravan wrecking business ?.. With all the old vans I see in properties you would think there should be lots for sale. Anyway, Ill keep searching. Cheers to everyony.
