Hi, I'm new to this and would love some advice from seasoned nomads. Hubby n I are purchasing a new van and we are at the design stage. I want gas struts to lift 2 single bed, but was talked out of it. Instead there is a flap to access under bed inside the van and an access door outside. What is best struts instead or flap? I like the outside door but am worried that access is limited in van. Your advice much appreciated.
We put large drawers in the side of our beds in the bottom half of the bed - electrics and water heater in the other two halves. Still can lift bed if needed but it's a much better way to do it.

Our bed has two gas struts either side . Make sure the anchor points are strong . Steel brackets etc . Imo struts a little more powerful than you need .
We have single beds in our current van.....hate lifting the mattresses to get access. With doonas and pillows the are against the windows and curtains, nowhere near as easy as without the mattress and without the sheets, doonas etc. and i hated it so much the space was poorly used and almost empty.
We had hatches installed so we can get external access to the underbed storage, and it fits the chairs, tables, privacy screen, annex floor etc. Made it accessible, useful and made me so happy.
Out new van, again with single beds is currently being built, and they would not install external access to the spaces, so we have opted for drawers inside.
