Red Claw share farming

On our last trip up in the Burnett Region of Queensland ( Gayndah - Taroom area) bloody share farmers decided that they would like to take a couple of our traps.

This is one of the problems with Red Clawing, that is trusting your follow trapper or RV owner.

Glebe Weir and Mingo Crossing gave us good catches during the month of May this year.

Two great camp spots.

Glebe has power and is a honour system of $7 per day. AHMmmmm  I use the word honour inhope it is honoured.

we had suspicions about some people at Glebe this year. They were headed to the area where our pots were and it was a bit obvious that when they were almost on top of our pots they looked behind them and saw us coming a 100 yds behind and completely changed direction - that morning we got a good catch unlike the previous days. Made sure we left ahead of them from then on and had no issues. Other people were also suspicious that they were sharefarming.

Where I suspect that trap robbing might occur, I put a small cable tie on the trap opening so that I can see if it has been opened.

Then I make sure that I am the first on the water every day.

Another trick is to use heavy gauge green braid fishing line instead of rope & float, & set the traps in a circle around a stump or similar. Tie them off under water.

Thanks for the two campsites.we normally go tow warooma dam but will try those other places.the only trouble with warooma is there is no water and the toilets are way up on the hill.we have had no trouble as of yet with poachers but it's good to know, will try the cable tie method.

Is that Wuruma Dam in from Bundaberg?  I couldn't find Warooma Dam.   Any redclaw there?

Sorry about the spelling of waruma dam, it's near Eidsvold.there is plenty of red claw, we will be there around April.usually gets pretty packed around that time .There is a man comes around 3times a week he has pretty well anything you want on his truck, even water.i would make sure you have plenty of water anyway.
