VERY CAREFUL!

Welcome to the gang Rallycardriver, enjoy here and out in the playground.

Not only weight but make sure IF fitted you don't exceed the max distance from axles to rear.

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Too much weight on the back is not good:

Most rear bumpers are designed to be strong enough to hold a spare wheel & that's about all.

Attach additional heavy items at your own risk.

One day you might pull up & have no rear bumper, spare wheel, tool box & bicycle. laughing.gif laughing.gif

plenty of negative responses without asking if you have plenty of leeway on weight or what size van or tug for me i made a rear bar that bolted onto the chassis rails and carried a 40 kg outboard all over the country with out any mishaps. You can always try it and if its unsafe take it off .

I fitted 2 aluminium boxes (Bunnings) and shaped flat steel to suit and bolted them to the rear bar (Jayco Freedom Tandem Axle.)

Needed space in the front hatch, too much clutter.

Only light weight items go in the boxes, also fitted on rear bar are PVC pipes holding aluminium poles, be carefull of the weight back there.

Bikes racks are a different thing again, they need holding in several directions as there can be a fair bit of weight swinging around with a back, (the pendulum effect) good luck with that part of your query.

Plenty of advice available that says adding any weight at the rear of a van will contribute to instability.   Best advice might simply be to not do it.

Perhaps a call to Jayco to discuss the situation and accept there answer would be the best way to go.I know what the answer will be,but best to get the answer from the horses mouth. There are many design rules and factors involved and we the buyer and end user don't them.If you were to have an accident and an insurance claim the outcome will not be in your favour if you are out of specs.
