Radiography.

I just had an email from a Radiographer friend telling me that come November, For  anyone over 50yrs old a  Knee MRI is no longer covered by Medicare.

Bit of a concern for us Grey Nomads.

Did some checking and it appears to be true.

Currently going through a battle with advanced prostate cancer that they wont operate on, so I need a MRI scan to find gold seeds that will be inserted for targeting during radiation. $375 not covered in Port Macquarie hospital, no charge Coffs Harbour or Newcastle...........go figure.

Had this experience a few times in the last couple of years. All hospitals claim the applicable Medicare fee for a procedure, the only difference between them is some are content to bulk bill while others cheerfully kick you in the guts with an out of pocket gap. Our annoyance is equally with the private health funds not covering the gap for these pathology procedures as an out patient. A few weeks ago, after ringing around 4 or 5 institutions we found only one that offered a scan with no out of pocket. Saved at least $300.

All the best with your battle mate.

I've just had Nuclear Bone Scan, Bone Density, MRI in public hospital in QLD, NO CHARGE.
Drtooheys had Metastatic PC on ribcage beat it and now totally clear. There is a section on
another forum totally dedicated to this subject that is very informative.
