Are new caravan rims balanced?

I've been told that most tyre rims on vans are not balanced, is this correct. Went & checked all four rims on my new van & yep - not balanced. Should they be? Does it make any difference if they are not balanced or it's nothing to worry about?

Best to get them balanced, You don,t want bad vibrations running continously thru the van, every bit of gear in the van will live longer with a smooth ride.

Agree - should be. Much better tow.
In fact when I asked in a large outback Qld town tyre shop for a new spare replacement to be balanced they were quite shocked, I was very willing to pay for the service of course and they did it. With each wheel on a 1000Kg rated axle and van at 3500Kg rating at 90 - 100 kph I do like a balanced LT tyre!

I believe caravan wheels are balanced, not the rims but the assembled wheel. I have had many tyres fitted to wheels, tyres new and repaired and nowhere ever has the tyre fitter not balanced the assembled wheel. Do you believe that whoever fits the tyres to the wheels supplied to the caravan manufactures doesn't balance the complete wheel after fitting and inflating the tyre?????
Cheers,
Roy E

While getting a new tyre fitted to an existing rim at our local Beaurepaires the manager said that Beaurepaires supply all of the rims & tyres to Avan & Jayco.

This makes sense as after taking delivery of our new caravan I removed the cover over the spare wheel on our Avan to find that it was the wrong stud pattern for our van.

It was the right diameter but instead of 5 stud holes it had 6.

I took it back to the dealer & he swapped it after he'd said that it wasn't an Avan wheel, it could be a Jayco.

I can't imagine that Beaurepaires would be supplying unbalanced wheels & rims to clients.

G`day,
I was told by Preston Chassis Vic when I purchased a second spare for my van that trailer and van wheels do not need balancing . Didn`t ask why, just thought B/S . However, I do have all my van wheels and spares balanced .
Cheers,
Jontee

Itās amazing seeing caravans pass on roads and things are bouncing around inside while the passengers in car have no idea whatās going on inside van . We where past by Cruiser & caravan on private road to station . Saw the microwave bouncing around back window . Ok nothing to do with wheel balance . But please donāt be ignorant of what is going on ! In this case 80 kph was about 40 kph too fast .

G'day Keith,
Late last year when I was chasing up a new mag wheel for our Discovery, it seemed the only source was Jayco. One local tyre/wheel dealer did an extensive search & came up with "No sorry, you have to go with Jayco".

Someone mentioned I should try Beaurepaires - the local lot was next to useless but they did say "if I was travelling to Brisbane, they might have a steel wheel that might fit".

I ended up getting a genuine wheel from another dealer in Toowoomba - was far more helpful than the Townsville mob!

Wheels on caravans and large trailers need to be balanced, they are doing the same speeds as the tow vehicle, just imagine your car's wheels not being balanced at highway speeds!
