Securing bottom of annex- little "rubber band" thingies.

Hey peoples,

Im attempting to secure the bottom of my annex, adjacent to a concrete slab.I need to attach the bottom D-Rings to some pegs.

I am sure I've seen little rubber bands somewhere, but cant for the life of me find them now that I need them. I think they're about 5" long, and prolly made of silicone? Think they might have been yellow.

Anyone know what the hell I'm on about?

Haha,

Thanks,

Mark

Welcome No Eye Deer. I hope you enjoy our site, an gain lots of knowledge.

I know what you mean, but we make our own out of quality elastic tied to form a look. Buy it by the metre from any good haberdashery. We always carry extra lengths just in case....

YEP...I do

The tie down rubber bands you speak of are available at most good camping stores ( including that BIG one that ends in effing ). Not sure if they are silicone...but are usually grey...come in packs of 4 or so ....and are about 4 inches long (yeh....I know its old fashioned . So ...?!!! ). Dunno wot they cost off hand...but I got mine to peg out the awning screen on both sides of the van. And because they have pressure on the tent pegs all the time ....the pegs need to be driven in at a fair angle.

HTH.

Cheers  Keith

Yep- you got it!!. I had a look at said outlet- but I'm in Mt Isa. Lovely place, but hopeless for accessing stuff. Dont suppose you know the name of the things? Or are they just "tie down rubber bands"? I tried googling and Ebaying, but couldnt find 'em. Also- ,thanks Dunmowin- I know what you mean- that elastic ute bungie stuff..

Thanks
Mark

Not quite what you asked for but for my tarp shelters in the bush I use "ocky" straps doubled:

Thanks Mike,
Yeah- considered that. But a bit too long. I reckon if I cant find the things I'm after, I'll try some ute bungie cord. As Dunmowin suggested. Isa's a bugger to find what what you want. Just thought the rubber ones would be neater.

Ta mate,
Mark

Now that's a ripper idea.

I got a couple of motorbike tubes in the shed ...plus a car tube ....and a quad tube....so might make up  a selection...

Been wondering what I was gunna do with those old tubes too.

Old inner tubes are great for making these. Last year I went to Bob Jane's and they gave me a punctured tube - free from their scrap bin.

Those inner tube tie downs appeal to me. I might go that way, just because it annoys me that no one in Isa has any idea what Im on about!
Thanks peoples!!

Go to the big green shed and get a roll of shock cord and cut your own to size. Shock cord is quite elastic, cheap and does the job well.

Hi Mark,
Unfortunately is is one of the hurdles faced by anyone living in outback regions sometimes. I spent a couple of years in Longreach a few years ago, and same problem....unless you could phone order or buy online, most things had to come from Rocky, Townsville or Brisbane. All the best with your research. I don't use any elastic of any type because I use a privacy screen and simply peg it down using quite long pegs sourced from Downunder Camping.
Cheers
Dave

I found that any sort of 'shock cord' does as its name suggests and takes the shock as the sheet is subjected to wind etc.  Reduces the likely hood of pegs pulling out or the eyelet ripping the fabric.   I use springs on the main tie down ropes & rubber bands from inner tubes on the inside tie down points.

Hi no eye deer,

I feel pretty sure that you will find what you are looking for on eBay, look for  bungee loops, you will find packs of 150mm in various quantities, eg.20x150mm $17.20 with free postage. I had trouble tracking them down also. Hope this info helps.

Bluey.
