If you have N B N dropout issues

We have had 7 months of crap with NBN installed. Lost count of dropouts on actual phone calls and lots of slow internet and none at all. Yesterday a lady Telstra technician arrived. Removed wall cover plate and says'' oh, you still have the old fashion 20 or thereabouts wires connected to your plug" I will fix that, you only need two wires now"

She also put in a splitter box that will allow our downstairs extension( hard wired) to be active again. They wanted over $200 for that originally.

So, if you have had 20-30 calls

to an Indian call centre without any joy, have a look behind the socket and see what is connected.

cheers Craig.

ps this system suits us, we dont want or need two mobiles and hotspots etc.

Does this mean you can connect a telephone to the extension or what does it mean?

Pretty poor NBN (FTTN) where we are in WA. Not quite 2 months since inception and we are still experiencing up to 40 dropouts per day

Very disappointing after having a rock solid ADSL connection

We had hard wired points . 1 downstairs in garage. 2 In main bedroom. The bedroom one was replaced by cordless, but downstairs was original phone. Once NBN came on,the downstairs would not work. Telstra website said it could be activated for around $200. It took technician around 5 minutes with a new " splitter box on the wall which also runs to the new modem. So can plug in original handset. We assume no charge at this stage, as she had to fix up original Telstra wiring anyway.
But overall, what a waste this NBN is. Just made Bill Morrow a wealthy man.

During my time on the road, the way to watch tv/ internet has changed rather dramatically.

Years ago, the old sat dish got put out at night, that was after upgrading from the wire coat hanger. lol.

14 years ago I used a set top box .

BUT am impressed with what is available today.
These days I use a smart phone as a modem connected to my laptop, there is my Netflix app, there is my FOX GO app, which was a gift from my daughter who has Fox at home.

Some times I run a HDMI cord to the wall mounted TV from the laptop so I can be lazy and lie on the couch to watch a movie.

For all this, I pay Telstra $199 per month for the use of their 4g network, and I receive 160gigs of data. Plenty for tv or the internet or both.

For a full time Nomad, this is the best thing going. Love this set up.
Used to have a wyngard aerial on the roof, but it blew away..

I do have a sat dish on the roof for free to air tv also, but find the 4g network is much better.
This is 2018 , huge changes from 30years ago,

Hope this information helps others.
Cheers
