Hmm yes hard going ! But this is my take on it. If the existing pollution systems are managed for catalyst temperature there will be good outcomes for NOx that should satisfy the rules for the future. There is no new hardware required. However during warmup and shut down conditions there may be some post combustion injection required to maintain temperature. There will be minimal extra fuel use in urban use. There will really just be extra computer management required. That is what I think they are saying ???
So if I am correct there is nothing to charge your batteries there I suspect
They mention that it would be possible to heat the exhaust with regenerated 12 volt energy, they then go on to say that
The key disadvantage of electric heating compared to engine-related measures is the fact that the engine-out nitrogen oxide emissions cannot be reduced
So I must have added 2 x 2 and wishfully dreaming came up with 6¼ thinking that I had come up with something they had missed
Thanks for the second link, as it was not directly linkable
