Van Rebuild.

Hi All,

Its been a couple of weeks since my last post i put it down to forgetfulness or old age one of the two, any how since my last post the van has been blasted and powder coated and i must admit it came up better than imagined. i had a bit of a hold up for a few days where  a 40' sea container was parked across the access of my unit and the blokes next to me at least i had a 2 meter gap so i could walk in and out imagine my surprise when i turned up to work on the van, the owner of the box was very apologetic about it.

i have fitted as much gear as i could to the chassis such as the suspension, lighting, plumbing and gas, everything that is under the floor basically. Now that i have finished and fitted the mud guards i will be fitting the floor which i tongue and grooved and sealed yesterday. So it is slowly coming together, i am trying to work out what floor finishing to use. Do i use lino/vinyl sheet or 3mm vinyl planks? if anyone has had any dealings with these products please post your thoughts as i have heard good and bad about both i am getting a bit confused in relation to wear, life span and expansion and i thought that one would be easy. Not so many pics this time i keep forgetting to take them.

Kind Regards,

Alan.20180414_095416.jpg20180414_100511.jpg20180420_100340.jpg20180420_100402.jpg

kind Regards,

Alan.

I was going to send you a PM today to see if you got lost or went on strike Alan. But here y'are.

Looking good. Infact it looks too good to cover up mate. Why not just tow that around as is and set up a tent next to it each night.

I have what I guess is Vinyl sheet that looks like timber flooring on my floor and seems to be going alright after 3.5years living in it. I do have carpet matts down the middle though for a little warmth under the feet. Works too.

Any pics of the suspension used?

Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

Hi Dougwe,

Thanks for that, i was looking at the vinyl at bunnings and i liked some of the examples they had. i spent some of the morning looking at you tube clips on how people laid the stuff and now i am satisfied that i will be happy with the vinyl sheet. I spent the rest of today gluing and screwing the floor down, sanding and filling so i can sand the filler tomorrow. I will put it back on the hoist and get pics of the suspension and the new floor so you can have a look.

Kind Regards,

Alan.

We had new vinyl done in our van, went for the felt backed version, little more expensive, heaps of selection, very hard wearing and doesn't need gluing!

Hi drtooheys, dougewe.

Thanks for the imput, i saw the stuff you are talking about this morning when i went to bunno's and i ended up buying the standard vinyl so i can glue it down. I was impressed with the felt backing vinyl as the face side examples had some nice wood grain textures.

I have attached some pics of the floor and the suspension, the floor as you know is tongue and grooved, screwed and glued and the would filler you see on the floor is the second application so i will sand that back tomorrow morning and see if it okay so i can lay the vinyl.

The suspension is 50 mm axle rated to 2250 kg as are both spring packs, bloody strong i tell you its brought tears to my eyes iv'e walked into it 3 times cry cry cry. The brakes are 12" electric with 5 stud toyota stud pattern and the rims are mine spec which have a thicker wall giving you a better load rating 2500 kg from memory.

Kind Regards,

Good name Alan, it reminds me of John Guzzwell's trip around the world in that fantastic little yacht of the same name.

Hi all,

it's been another busy week i have been putting the interior wall cladding on the wall frames and finally getting the lunch box of the hoist. i managed to clad one of the side walls and the front and rear so they are now fixed in place on the van, this gives me more room in the shed enabling me to clad the other wall and roof which i should finish the next few days. Now i would just like to point out why i am cladding the walls before standing the frames up as opposed to cladding the walls when they are standing, basically with the design of this van they made it in sections and put it together some what like a flat pack i guess so the top of the side wall cladding will actually be sandwiched between the wall frames and roof frame. With any luck i should be able to start the wiring shortly you know the lighting and that stuff, i have attached a few pics of the van as it stands.

Kind Regards,

Look'n great there Alan. I like the floor colour too, it looks very similar to mine. Easy to keep clean.

Oh! Good airconditioning.
