I am hiring a motorhome for 32 days in July / Aug. for a trip from Cairns to Melbourne. I have been quoted $1440 for "Liability Reduction Option" which seems exorbitant?? Is there a way I can avoid / reduce costs involved in having adequate insurance cover for our trip please? Thanks for any help.
Talk to your car insurer - you wont be using both at the same time.
But frankly, the risks for people driving a larger, strange vehicle for the first time are very high.
Cannot help u with your question but do not b like a family a few years back who hired 4 cars, i think, for big family holiday n never insured any of them n they were all parked n along came a hail storm.
Hi, Don't know if this applies to motorhomes, (have a look around via google) but a few years back we hired a car when we went to Tassie and found it was cheaper for us (a family of 3 adults) to take out travel insurance which also covered the hire vehicle than taking the extra insurances with the hire company. All we had to do was present our travel insurance documents when picking up the car.
For a small additional charge I have Rental car cover on my Landcruiser insurance, most Rental car companies have an excess for $4000 or less if there is major damage to the car, my rental car additional will cover this. BUT I do not know if this rental car cover, covers motorhomes.
I also ensure that the rental car basic insurance, covers hail, if not I look elsewhere, because if Rental Company does not cover hail, neither will my additional LC cover.
Thanks for responses from everyone. I am looking at taking out a policy with RACV to cover the rental vehicle excess up to $8000. The cost to do so is $160..............considerably cheaper than the $1440 the rental company charge.
Has anyone had experience taking out this sort of cover previously please? Also looking at the possibility of taking out travel insurance that includes rental vehicle excess. Will ensure hail damage included.
