Hi. Sounds like a possible clutch problem. May need adjusting or replacement. I suggest that you get it inspected by persons qualified. Good luck. Cheers, Allen

Yep sounds like a clutch as footprints has said,if I was in your shoes I would ring around a few workshops and get an idea what a clutch job is worth for your vehicle ,then take it to a local work shop armed with an Idea of what the job should cost so you wont be ripped off...

Gday...

I agree with the previous replies.

However, that is assuming it is a manual transmission ... it is also assumed there would be a many Km on the clock?

If there are some thousands of Km on the clock, and it is a manual, it may be the clutch ... but if not many Km would spell an expensive fix.

If it is an auto transmission then it is a whole different ballgame. hmm

Cheers - John

The not going into reverse may be as simple as spraying the gear linkage under the bonnet down low with wd40 the linkage gets water and dust on it and dries out

the shudder could be clutch or a engine mount

Thank you for the replies, its automatic but can be used as manual if needed. Its also got only 46 thousand Kims on the clock. .

Just something else to look at my daughter has a VWGolf manual it did a drive shaft bearing where it comes out of the gearbox at 90,000 k and was doing similar things to what you discribe .

Firstly welcome to the forum Chez

I have the older model Fiat Ducato than yours which does not have your type of gearbox

I have found that (unfortunately), it is only the Fiat commercial workshops, or workshops affiliated with Fiat, who have the special tools sometimes needed to repair the Fiats Ducato
I am led to believe that your gearbox uses electronic controls to change gears in automatic mode, but that it still has a clutch, inside the gearbox

Hopefully someone from your part of the world, can tell you who is a good Fiat mechanic
Perhaps you can google who the Fiat Ducato people are, and ring to ask them a question, as the shudder may be a fault they know about

If you could let us all know the outcome, it may help other Fiat Ducato members in the future

Hi I have finally found some one to work on my vehicle after many calls so far its definatly a clutch issue but could be more sinister but they have to fix one fault at a time. I will let all you lovely people know what the end of this story is. I appreciate all replies.
