WHAT IS A GOOD INSURER FOR CARAVANS?

Hi all

Will need to pay my yearly caravan insurance and wonder if I should look at a different one. The one I am with depreciated the pay out figure by $6,000 in the first year. I really don't think caravans actually depreciate that much. I am with YOUI  and I have to admit they have been very good with all our other insurances. Any out there who have a really good run with their insurer?

Ken Tame through the CMCA (campervan & motorhome club of Australia) provide specialist insurance. I have all my insurance other than motorhome with you but Ken Tame has many more benefits with a lesser premium,

Neil

Thanks for that .. Never heard of WFI.

The only WFI that I could find is a W? Farm Insurance, but I do note that it includes caravans in its product list.

I might give them an opportunity to quote the next time my van's insurance is due.

In the meantime I'll see if they will send me a policy doc that I can compare against others.

SWMBO usually decides on our insurances & runs her choice by me to check coverage before finalising.

Hi Cupie we have been with WFI for 40 odd years and have never let us down , like jrg our van is insured for $63k replacement and it costs us approx $650 . I have put two claims in on our van and both were taken care of with no fuss , one for $6500 and the second for $4000 though they would not cover our pushbikes that were damaged whilst on the back of the van . Said they should be covered under our house policy as a seperate noted item . I shopped round when we bought the van and couldn't get near them .

WFI is owned by IAG (Insurance Australia Group)

IAG own CGU, NRMA Insurance, SGI, WFI and Swann insurance (Australia); NZI, State and AMI (New Zealand); Safety and NZI (Thailand); AAA Assurance (Vietnam); and Parolamas (Indonesia). IAG also has general insurance joint ventures in Malaysia, India and China.

What that means I am not sure, however I'd say they must return a profit!

Good Luck.

We are with CGU & have all our insurance with them. All claims have been dealt with quickly & cleanly. Based on that have no hesitation in recommending them.

Thank you so much all of you. All of the above have been very helpful and shall look at them as I had never heard of the Ken Tame or WFI. Thanks again

Gday...

It does appear WFI cover caravans ... but it seems only under their 'Standard home policy'. I have studied their PDS and I cannot find specific cover and exclusions for a caravan that is used for recreation - just that it is included in the home policy. No detail on what it is covered for when used on trips etc.

However, as I travel full-time, their policy is of no use to me. As I have said before, one MUST understand just what is covered, and excluded, when purchasing insurance cover for anything - particularly a caravan/motor vehicle.

The cost of the premium should have no bearing on choice of insurer - always get the coverage that suits YOUR usage circumstances ... then, and only then, begin looking at price of cover.

This is snipped from the WFI PDS -

PS - their quote was $280 less per year than what I get from CIL but not a suitable policy.

Cheers - John
