Whats on in Australia

Only having just retired, and started to do some decent trips, one thing i have noticed is that lots of country towns have fairs, show, events etc, that for the ignorant (read me) are unaware of until I suddenly arrive at a town just to  find it all booked out. I just wonder is there a magical app or web site that would/could list all the happenings state by state and town by town and month by month with some sort of cross referencing. Ie I wonder where I could see the next tractor pull show and just type in "tractor pull" and up comes a list and all the dates. If not it might be an opportunity for someone as I think it would be great. Ie some sort of a Trivago type ap.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Cheers Wally

Good question ..

A couple of sources are

. on the home page of this greynomads site under 'EVENTS'

. Each State's Tourist Bureau publishes lists.

I don't know of any app.  Others might.

I have found that all of the above are not complete lists.

If we're traveling to a particular area, we sometimes email the local Tourist Information Centre to see if there's any ''big events'' on in the area at the time that we plan to visit.

If there is we avoid them like the plague. sprint.gifsprint.gif

Well, in Cooma NSW over Easter, there is a rally to celebrate 70 years of the Land Rover. Over 900 vehicles registered, and 1500 participants. There will be a big parade in the main street on Sunday morning. I reckon there will be a lot of oil on the ground after that lot have been through.... Oh - that's right, Land Rovers don't leak oil, they are merely marking their territory.
