Towing up from Landsborough to Maleny

I intend going from Brisbane to around Conondale next weekend & am currently planning my route.

The shortest way is through Maleny but the bit from Landsborough is reportedly rather steep.

Has anyone pulled a van up the range from Landsborough to Maleny?  How steep is it in comparison with ranges like the Toowoomba Toll Bar & Cunningham's Gap on the way to Warwick?

The alternative is up the highway & turn off near Eumundi & back through Kenilworth.

Thanks in anticipation

(I have a GQ TB4.2efi Patrol & 21'6" Jajco that has been up most ranges in Aus over the years)

Keep going Cupie, you will be fine, nothing in that area is overly steep, you patrol should be able to handle it

 Hi Cupie

Was up there last Wednesday, out for a drive for the day. Yes been up there a few times with semis grossing 40 tonne plus over the years, only once with our 2 tonnes caravan. Its a beautiful drive and if you are going to Malaney side of Conondale it would be quicker and shorter. It is no worst then Toowoomba or Cunninghams Gap

Going up the highway and coming in via Kenilworth has its bonuses. Kenilworth dairy sells great cheeses and dairy products, Kenilworth showgrounds, have not stayed there but appears great and worth a look. A bit further south out of town a 24 hour stop over camp.

Enjoy your drive.

The 24 hour stop over camp between Kenilworth and Maleny (that Radar mentioned) would be Little Yabba I would think. We've stayed there a couple times. Beside the river, drop toilets, bbq, picnic table plus more picnic area on the other side of the road. There's also a bush walk (easy) across the bridge/river. Don't have a caravan so can't comment on towing. Cheers.

Thanks for the replies.

It looks like the Maleny route is certainly an OK option.

Now it's up to SWMBO to decide if she likes that way or up through Kenilworth & I'll be comfortable with either.   She'll probably decide as we get to the Landsborough turn off, or more likely just as we pass it.

We are intending to visit the fully self contained Farm Stay at Harpers Creek Eco to try out my new 12V set up & my Daughter's brand new Mod Con Camper Trailer.

Of course it comes with the caveat 'if weather permits'.   A lot of flood water on the Sunny Coast at present but the hinterland might be OK & it gets away quickly.

Thanks all for the replies.

As suspected SWMBO decided that we should go up the highway & stop off at Kenilworth for lunch.

A good decision as it was a pleasant unstressful drive & lunch at the bakehouse was good & we had an opportunity to pick up some cheeses for nibbles.

We were going to return via Maleny but given that it was Sunday afternoon & our slow decent might be an annoyance to the Sunday drivers we decided to go home via the highway.

Thanks all for your input.  Next time we will go via Maleny.
