Cann River

Just read in the reviews on WikiCamps about the people who are overstaying in the Cann River Free park there.

These are the sort of people that get these places Closed Down. It reads that they have taken over the area and

unfortunately nothing gets done until it's too late and the rest of us then miss out on this fabulous place.

They don't care cos they can always "sniff out " another place like this again.

We can do nothing but feel angry.

Gday...

They are amongst us, they breath and they vote. no

That was a very good little van park in its day ... obviously now a no-cost camp.

It has room for at least 60 campers and 48 hour stay allowed ... have you seen how many of these 'free-loaders' are in-situ?

It is a wonder someone from the pub hasn't been over to take regos etc to get the wallopers onto to em ... especially if they are a large group.

Very close knit community at Cann.

Cheers - John

It's actually a Shire of East Gippsland Caravan Park & has been for years.

We've stayed there lots of times. You used to pay at the pub down the road but a lot of people didn't pay.

We stayed for a week a few years back & saw so many stealth campers plugging into the power that has now been disconnected. We had a meal at the pub & they were aware of what was happening but didn't give a hoot.

It's free until they work out what they're going to do with it. Probably ''rusty bus heaven'' right now.

The donation camp at Genoa, further along the Princes Hwy used to be a Shire owned Caravan Park as well. A lot of people make that one free too. We're not the ''camping police'' but these selfish ''non donating, over staying'' people give us ALL a bad name.

Stayed at Cann River a few times a few years ago pre-nomad days. Four groups of people in the pub. The working locals (workers, farmers & timber workers), the great unwashed tree huggers who are trying to make the timber workers feel bad, the unemployed (unemployable) who don't even hug trees, and tourists (cars, motorbikes & RVs). Found it a little tense in the pub at night as people of the first 3 categories rubbed shoulders. Someone in the pub made a statement that it's a great place to see your taxes at work.

It's a nice clean town for a break whether it just be a pit stop or an overnighter. Had a night in the pub, one in the motel and several pit stops.

Many, many years ago there was not always diesel available as all diesel users around town had their own tanks at home (farms & businesses). Trucks on Hwy #1 just passed thru and they always had enough fuel to go straight thru Cann River. Now with the proliferation of diesel utes & cars, diesel is readily available.
