Another layer of complexity, and I imagine fees.

Looks like a solution to a non existent problem.wink

Money will be transfered straight away no waiting days for the money to be transfered , Will be just like paying cash the other person can see the money go into their account .No complexity that will be removed .

I can do that now with one of the Cypto currencies.   Waiting for info in the transaction fees.

Na! We use a stash of cash when we're away. Money still talks very loudly when you use the folding stuff.

More tech stuff to go haywire IOO.

I checked their website where they give typical real life situations - don't know who set it up but this statement snipped from the site seems pretty sloppy:

Splitting bills after a night out
You had the $10 parmy. Your friend had the lobster. The restaurant doesnt do split bills. Awkward. With Osko, you can pay your half of the bill instantly. No more chasing for money, or being chased.

The restaurant doesn't do split bills so who do I pay - why would I pay half the bill when my parmy was only $10 and lobster much more?

Good Luck.

Gday...

There are been hundred's of times I have been to a restaurant with friends and the restaurant will not split the bill.

Simple ... works easily every time ... we just figure out what each owes and all drag out the wallet and fork over a cuppla $$$ ..... usually then one of us takes all the money and either pays with it .. or puts the bill on their credit card/debit card and pockets the money.

No need for OSKO ... hmm

cheers - John

That's cool, but the blurb says for you to pay half the bill - you had the parmy and the other bloke had the lobster....half the bill means I'm part paying for his meal - it should say you can pay for your portion of the bill instantly.

It says:

you can pay your half of the bill instantly.

And yes it's nitpicking but if someone is playing with my money I want them to be 'perfect'

Regards

When it comes to bill splitting there is a list of apps in the latest Choice Mag.

Bill splitting apps - Scrap the cash and pay your share of the bill with an app

For those without a Choice account:

The new breed of bill splitting apps aims to make paying friends or housemates easy by sharing and tracking group expenses, and in some cases allowing payments through the app from person to person. So how do they work and are there any pitfalls?

Splitr Free (Android, iOS)

splitr-app.com

Splitwise Free (Android, iOS)

splitwise.com

Plates Free (iOS)

plates.splitwise.com

Pay with Groupee Free (Android, iOS)

EasyShare Free  (Android, iOS)

OurHome Free (Android, iOS, web platform)

Are bill splitting apps safe?

The advice for avoiding potential threats is familiar use common sense, have good security measures in place and, if in doubt, check before interacting with strangers, sending money to someone or sharing financial information. There have been numerous reports of Venmo, one of the most commonly used apps in the US (it's owned by PayPal), being used by scammers. Users received money for items they'd sold and found that the transactions were later reversed, leaving them without the money and without the item they'd 'sold'.

It's reasonable to question the security of apps that require you to store your banking details in order to be paid by others. Here are some of the security measures these apps have put in place:

  • Splitr encrypts the information and says it's stored on certified secure payment servers.
  • Pay with Groupee uses bank-level data encryption to protect and secure your financial data and doesn't store card details in the app. It also monitors all transactions for potentially fraudulent transactions.
  • EasyShare uses the NAB payment system to process payments through the app, although the details are stored securely by its partner PCI compliant bank and all data in transit is encrypted.
