I just came back inside the van to get me lunch after sitting under a nearby tree reading quietly ... and this was the temperature that hit me as I opened the door - 1pm EDST which is only 12Noon real time.
Cheers - John

The media really beat up the 40+ today. 40+ and bushfires in the Otways were constant reminders it was summer when I was a kid. I was scared of bushfires then and I still am. One thing about being in the S/E of Aus is that the weather will change. 40+ is really only momentary in the big picture.
I've still got my parent's original wheelbarrow that used to be put in the shade, filled up with water and I'd jump in. Can't believe how small it really is. Gosh I must have been small then. My 7 year old grandson filled our larger one up last week and splashed around in it after I told him about the old one sitting next to the larger, newer one. There is no way he would fit in the old one.

Each to their own mate but it's a lot cooler where we are. 21 degrees in fact, that's why we choose to spend summer at home each year. We love being STUCK in our house next to Port Phillip Bay.

We love the summer here in Palm Beach Queensland.
Fairly constant temperature of around 29 each day does not vary as much as it did when we lived down South.
No need for an air conditioner here as we are between a canal and a river and only a k from the ocean. We designed our house correctly so we have a flow through of cool air and no need to waste power on an air conditioner.
Just sitting inside with all the windows open listening to the birds calling and the sound of the fish jumping in the canal.
Hope you are all enjoying the summer wherever you are.
Cheers
I think we just get less tolerant of higher temps the older we get! I think age makes us softer.
I wonder if I could take the conditions we had when working at the transmitter site of Radio Australia in Darwin in the late 60s, 70s where, yes it was hot (35+) outside & room blowers blew air into the transmitter vaults for some degree of cooling (sweat plus air = "cool") & then having to work inside a transmitter after it had been on all night & was shut down for maintenance, fault finding, etc, the next morning. Producing 250Kw of RF ensured they were HOT!
I recall meeting the big wigs (the boss, some engineers, the Postmaster General of SA + hangers on) one day in the transmitter hall, dressed in shorts & sandals (safety those days was a minimal item) with sweat running off me from head to toes! I was on my way to the store when they came in - I don't recall seeing them in the transmitter I had in bits & pieces!
Yesterday brought us back to the good old days before airconditioned cars when the aircond belt broke north of Goondiwindi. Temps north of Cowra were in the low 40s. I might get it repaired tomorrow or wait until we get to Canberra on Sunday as one of the belts is a nightmare to remove!
