Winnebago Caravans

Hi all.

First post as we are going through the process of setting up a vsn for a year long trip. Current vehicle is Ford Everest, hoping this will suffice our needs.

Any way to my question.

Would love to hear from actual users or owners of the Winnebago caravans.. pros n cons.

We where looking at the Zone caravans but there seems quite a wait on this particular van and quite expensive to boot.

We like the idea of the insulation properties of the new sandwich panels...  Any thoughts suggestions

Many thanks in advance... Steve n Cathy

Whatever van you choose ensure you obtain an accurate Weighbridge Tare also ensure your choice can comply with Caravan Council Compliance checklist www.caravancouncil.com.au/compliance

I would prefer a dual axle model for better road control on heavy van, with leaf springs.
Regarding Tow vehicle - be aware of GCM of your vehicles including occupants and all your gear. All Jurisdictions are now doing roadside weight compliance testing

Go into it with eyes open and ensure your Dealer is reputable. Follow the guidelines and you will get a good unit.

Look forward to meeting you out there.

This reply is for slawrence436, but hope it can help others.

I recently retired, my wife and I wanted to do some traveling, so we used a large amount of My retirement fund to purchase a 580-A BOURKE Winnebago Caravan. I have attached a copy of the complaint letter, so you can get an idea of what weve experienced. All I can say is we researched A lot before we brought and we still got bitten.

I think it would be beneficial if you checked out this hyperlink: www.choice.com.au/transport/cars/general/articles/lemon-caravans-and-consumer-rights

If anything, it will give you a fair checklist of things to check, because at the end of the day the following Quote is from the article which shows if We dont do our homework and extensive prechecks on pick up it's going to be an expensive ****e sandwich you have to eat alone.

In Queensland the Office of Fair Trading has received 92 complaints about caravans in the last financial year. And in 2016 Victoria Consumer Affairs received 107 enquiries relating to campervans and 306 enquiries relating to trailers and unpowered caravans.

The spokesperson from NSW Fair Trading says, "Under the motor dealers and repairers legislation, a caravan has no dealer guarantee attached to it when purchased. This means the dealer is not required by this legislation to repair, or make good any defect which may exist or occur with the caravan. Consumers buying a caravan from a licensed dealer, however, are covered under the Australian law." (this means you have to SUE very expensive, Very time consuming and no guarantee for win.

But the end story is, the van is very sexy, we love it and look forward with baited breath for its return from warranty repairs as they flatly refused to replace the van.evileye

Dear Adrian and Donna
How did you fare with your van faults. We have a Winnebago Burke. Slide has minor leaks, screws for drawers pathetically short and dont really hold, one side of the border around the slide has come adrift. Will need to check screws on slide. We too love our Winnie!
Cheers Wendy
