Mt Britton abandoned gold mining town


35mins north-west of Nebo on the central tableslands qld.

Founded in 1880,had a population of 1500 by 1883.By 1887 most businesses were closed and

mining ceased in 1890.

There is basic camping in the Homevale Resourse Reserve at Moonlight dam.

Hi Woody nice post. I know of many abandoned mining towns, however I've never heard of this one. The history of Australia fascinates me, so thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the photos, as I'm sure so many others have.  All the best for 2018....regards Kisha

Thanks Kisha. Was traveling between Bowen and the Peak Downs highway.When we noticed the sign to Mt Britton historic town.
Travelled about km down the road while making up our minds.Went back and glad we did.
Will go back and camp there when back in the area.
