Securing your Portable fridge

Do people leave their portable fridges outside their tug or van? (Waeco, Engel etc.)

If so, how do you secure them enough such that a bit of effort is required to steal them or the contents?

The short and sweet answer is a bicycle cable that cannot be cut by a set of boltcutters, only compressed.However the new age mongrels use angle grinders that are battery powered so you have bugger all chance from a true thieving mongrel , but I am happy with my cable . Cheers .

I have an alarm cable that if cut it set off a high pitched scream.

Just need to secure my Engel handles. Mine are too easy to remove as I'm more likely to wrap the cable around the handles than the full fridge. May use some stud locker or one way screws.

 I've brought a few things off this mob.  Reliable & reasonable quality but perhaps not the cheapest.

 

I'll be using one of these cables to secure my kayaks (thread thru the scupper holes) as well as my bike & Engel on the rare occasions that I take it out of the back of the truck.  The longest one is the go for me.

Be aware the cable alarms are very easily overcome - there's always a plastic bucket around a campsite - fill with water and dunk alarm in water - simple and silent then cut cable.

A camper next to me a few years ago had his Engel tied up with a bike cable thru the handles and thru the van wheel. Thief tried to cut thru the Engel handles. Someone heard the sawing and came looking. Thief took off. Given that the handles are only held on by Philips screws, undoing the screws would have been easier and quieter.

Thinking the only real safe place is locked in the back of the tug. Which is another issue as we had a rock thrown thru the tug window and stuff nicked in a van park last year. The glass breaking sounded like a bomb going off and the car alarm went off but the thieves were well gone before we got out of the van.

For my roof rack I have some lockable RhinoRack straps that I may try on my Engel one I figure out how to secure the handle itself.

Hi, I have that cable you have a link for, I have the 2.4metre, got it from the big green shed for a lot less than the price on that site. Check the big green shed first. 

Works for me for chairs and table at nigh When I am to lazy to put away

I believe what works better than anything, is to say hello to your neighbours, wherever you (free/donation/paid) camp

If you know that you are going to be away for a while, just ask them to keep a look out for you

By all means use something to secure your expensive items, as it will probably stop the opportunity thieves

I thought what Tiger5 (Jeff) put up, an alarm cable, would have been the ants pants of security
I had never heard of an alarm cable before, so thanks for that information

Until I read what hako (Dennis) put up, there's always a plastic bucket around a campsite - fill with water and dunk alarm in water - simple and silent then cut cable

I have seen plenty of portable chest fridges, outside the vehicles, (I sometimes get close to an RV when picking up rubbish)
I shall try and calculate how many are actually secured, on my next road trip, in a few days
