Is MAX axle loading and drawbar weight.

"TARE" Starting weight. is only a guide to what you can load till full.
Just remember to have actual mass LIGHTER then gross.

Macka, I think Peter is suggesting that the actual TARE is so far over the 'plated TARE' that to achieve it would need the gutting of the van. cry

Consequently, whilst not actually stating it as such, he is suggesting that he is WAY over the 'plated ATM'.

His question is if anyone else with a "Viscount Newport 16ft Full Caravan with Shower Toilet" has weighed their example and what did they find. hmm

I doubt he needs advice on achieving an 'actual mass LIGHTER then gross' - it appears from his post that the 'gross' a 'nonsense' in his case.

another 18'6" van without Loo/Shower had a Tare of 1500Kg and an ATM of around 2000Kg from memory.

Suggest you give the Trading Post seller a call to compare notes.

is the gross on wheels.
TARE. Is a fairy figure out of the air.

there's been lots on this, here and elsewhere, for last 30 odd yrs.

Basically Check chassis stamp rating. Go over weighbridge.
and you KNOW. how much you can go up. to stay legal.
or buy another van.

The TARE. is just a figure the van mfg stamps on a plate to give rough ideas.
It could be anything.
THE BASIC TARE has always been. caravan on wheels. NO spare.
NO Roll OUT. NO Aircond. water heater, etc.

Just ONE empty gas bottle. empty water tank..

MFG often weighs at that.

THEN. ADDS Roll out. second bottle. one or two battery's. Solar. electrics.
Water heat system. Air Cond etc etc.

EVERYTHING OVER the van body and wheels\drawbar.
are OVER and above the Tare in legal terms.

If he removed all the above. he'd probably find the Plated tare was pretty right.

It's a pity more don't understand that and check more. Sorry.

THAT's where the differential NORMALLY occurs.
The legal, and your wanting.

People nowadays want everything with it weighing the least.
It don't happen. Unfortunately. and lots are losing out.

As I said.
the TARE is fairy floss. GROSS\MAX on wheels plus drawbar. IS the only one that matters.
Insurance and legality wise. It's up to the individual to make it so.

If not I dont understand why you want to invade my thread with your opinion on everything but not relevant to my question.
Is there any thread on this board you dont give your unwanted opinion on ?

Peter, what is the year of construction and what are the weights stamped on the compliance plate? If you have had it weighed, was it in travelling load and what was the weighbridge figure. If you can give us these figures it would make the thread more meaningful.

I am looking to contact anyone who owns a Viscount Newport 16ft Full Caravan

I am not looking for advice or suggestions regarding weights in general

Simply looking for other Viscount owners who may have a similar issue

I wouldn't own one.

You. and a lot of others here and elsewhere.
Have the WRONG ideas about weights. Limits on caravans.
Specially where TARE concerned.

It's NOT only your little van. It's quite a lot actually.

The base van is weighed. then they add.

IF you too Whatever to take a little "possible" advice. (Actual, Van mfg IS irrelevant)
That's your perogative.

What I'm saying. Has EVERYTHING to do with All caravans.Regardless of make.

THE TARE. STARTING figures. (what YOU asked about.)

PS do yourself a favour.

Go to caravan rules and reg's in gov't papers. Get an idea of where they ALL start from.

Your situation is happening a lot these last years.
Ways of dealers selling heavier vans on falsified figures.

But the rules on TARE. UNLESS they been changed by law.
As I stated beforehand.
Like it or not.

is usually taken as below.

TARE IS Basic. BARE caravan. Starting figures for different models base.
Same as Falcon\Fairlane.

The ONLY figure Scalies will look at is the GROSS on wheels.

And they'll probably look at numbers stamped on chassis rails to work from.

HOW you get there, with what figures. is up to you.

We've been going over this with differing newbies for over 40 yrs now.
Unfortunately. People DON'T KNOW to look first.
And too many get caught.
