Caravan Parks that take permanent residents, need some advice please.

Gday gang

One day we (SWMBO) and I will need to settle down and stop moving. We want to settle in SA ideally close to the sea. We have looked at Port Lincoln (North Shields) and Kadina, both excellent.

Just wondering if anyone has any other places in mind.

Thanks in advance, be safe Phil C

Yeh Phil, we reckon it is a good move if you don't own your own home. We came into our Caravan P/k for 2 nights 18 years ago. Last May our rent went up by 10% for the first time in 3 years and currently we are paying $130.00 / week. Because we are signed up through the Govt  made agreement it can only go up 10% per year. If we were in State Housing it would be 25% of our pension. It is a Big 4 park as well, so not a crumby one. On top of that we pay $22.oo plus or minus 2 bucks for power. On a good week we can save $300, on a tight week we save $3. Well that is spreading my Gu, eerrrr tummy on the table.

We've got an beautiful older couple in the park we manage , been living there for 35 years in their van , they used to go north each year and back south for the summer for twenty years .They sold their house right back when , they have said they wouldn't change a thing , but I've noticed them struggling living in just a van in last few years . They cant afford to get any real estate anymore . Not sure if its a good idea to get rid of your home and have to live your twilight years in a van park.  I know its not always financially possible for a lot , but if it is ,  its something to consider.

Not sure if you are aware but the North Shields Park is currently for sale.

As with many caravan parks near the coast they are quite often prime real estate for redevelopement.

It is difficult to predict what may happen to your "home" in the future.

Cheers

Residential Parks Information. Open that link, you will find some more links you should read before searching a park.

You did not tell us of your situation. Are you intending to live in your own van or do you have the finance for a unit in a residential village. The latter will give you more living space. If you can not afford a unit then you should look at extending your living space with a solid annex made from 50 mm foam sandwich panels

What ever you do, make sure you move in with a good lease/residential agreement. Consumer Affairs should be able to guide you in this.

Thanks PeterD we will be living in our caravan and probably build a stronger aluminium annex for a lounge room etc. Im in the hope mode at the moment as a lot of parks wont take permanent residents. Thanks again and to all those who answered.

We are just in the process of selling our home and moving to a residential village.
It has all the amenities you could ever wish for, heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, gymnasium, bowling greens, tennis court, workshop, cricket practice nets, golf putting green beautiful clubhouse with a full commercial kitchen and a bar with happy hour every day in the afternoon.
The front garden is looked after by the park gardeners and the small back garden can be all artificial turf if that is what you want.
Short walk to a lake or a short walk to public transport and a shopping centre with a Woolies supermarket.
Has everything you need you don't have to leave unless you need to visit the Doctor.
This is will be as close to heaven one can get before you kark it.
Cheers
David

Hi Phil C

Can you not stay at Wallaroo? It is one of my favourites so close to the sea and near the shops. Let us know how you get on but all the best and I hope you find what you are after.

Cheers Chris

 Gday Chris

I love Wallaroo as well. However because the caravan park is on crown land, there can be no permanent residents, a law that goes back to Captain Cook...

At this stage (despite it being on the market) North Shields is the winner. I just thought some folks may have seen a nice place that takes permanents.

Cheers

As long as there is a shed and a long hose mate, all will be good.
