Induction Cooker.

Tandy Online have this Induction cooker on sale. I have heard they are a good addition to the Grey Nomad items to take with you.

I believe Tandy are now part of Kogan who own the name. But don't quote me.

The Cooker is selling at $49 with a free pot. I have no idea if this is a good buy or not.

This is a link to the website for those interested.

We have an induction hob that lets us select the wattage from 500 to 2000. If you want to use the 2000W machine on a inverter then you could be in strife with the drain on the battery bank (it would draw around 80 Amps from the battery). If you plan to stay in caravan parks no problems, just be aware that you will be drawing half the circuit breaker max current.

You need "special" cookware as well. A good rule of thumb is if a magnet sticks to the base of the cookware it may be suitable for the induction hob.

We love ours and have invested in good induction cookware and never looked back.

Be safe, Phil C

Cheap induction cookers tend to use an "On-off" control to achieve lower heats, so using one at a lower setting may still draw the maximum current.
And 2000W is closer to 200A from your 12V batteries, not 80A.

Cheers,
Peter

I may be mistaken with my calcs, thought the AC current was ten times less than the DC draw. Therefore 2000W = 8Amps = 80 from the batts. Are my calcs out that much? Good to see you Peter.

Cheers

2000W is 2000W in any voltage. 2000W divide by 12 = 167A at 12V. Add a bit for inverter losses and 200A is not far off the mark....
As a rule of thumb, divide Watts by 10 to get amps at 12V.

Cheers,
Peter

I purchased a cheap model from Kmart ($49 from memory) about a year ago to cook non BBQ food outside. It has 9heat settings and works a treat. My friend paid aver $200 for his model with more bells & whistles than mine but both cook with no bother. Based onn my experience I would buy a cheap version. I use it only on EHU as I do not have a gennerator.
