we are picking up a new 22 foot caravan from Nowra on Monday and were thinking of going from there to Kangaroo Valley to test out the van and towing. Has anyone done that part of Moss Vale Road recently....wondered what conditions are like as showers are tipped for the morning clearing in afternoon. We are pulling it with Triton glx 4x4 auto ute.
The tow up Cambawarra Mountain is steep - good test - It does have a couple of serious hair pin bends. Check your coolant levels before you go. I've towed my previous Jayco Discovery up there behind the old 6 cyl Patrol a few years back no worries. Beautiful lookout and cafe' half way up where the Para-gliders jump off.

We lived at both Nowra and Kiama many moons ago and have traveled Cambewarra Mountain and through Kangaroo Valley on numerous occasions. We have owned caravans on and off for more than 30 years. I would NOT want to pull 22' of caravan across the mountains at Kangaroo Valley. I know there are CP parks and camping areas along that road. However 22' of van at least 2500/2800kg behind a vehicle that would be at its capacity in towing this weight is not the best option on the first journey.
Note this is my personal opinion and you may be more risk adverse and more than happy to take on such a trip. As possum said make sure that the triton is in tip top condition for the haul.
Make sure your electric brakes are spot on.
We are making our way to South Nowra (Currently at Cobargo) and will pull 3ton of Jayco up the Nerriga Road via Windellama to Goulburn to Canberra etc.
Many years ago we would travel from Canberra up the Hume to Picton Rd come down Ousley to spend holidays at Kiama and Batemans Bay. Always stayed clear of Macquarie Pass, Kangaroo Valley and the Clyde.
