Heading to Coober Pedy from Pt Augusta any good places to stay that are Pet friendly and what is the last fuel stop for Diesel. Any suggestions appreciated.
Fuel after Port Augusta available at Pimba (~ 180 km), & then Glendambo (~120 km from Pimba). From there it is 255 km to Coober Pedy.
Low cost/Free Camps between Pt Augusta and Coober Pedy include Pimba, Lake Hart (no facilities) and Bon Bon Rest Area.
We have only stayed at Stuart Range Caravan Park. Last I knew it was pet friendly. Showers cost for 3 minutes, and water available for the tanks in your van at a fee.
Places to see include The Breakaways at Sunset (~ 25 km north), drive back via the Moon Plain and Oodnadatta road, the underground church, the opal shops and do a town tour, available from Stuart Range for an afternoon (does include some of the things mentioned). Woomera is worth a side trip from Pimba (~ 5kms) to see the rocket display in the town centre. There is a caravan park in Woomera if you want. Can also go to Roxby Downs (~110 kms) and Andamooka (~150 kms) via Woomera if you desire.
Enjoy yourself, but it is starting to get warmer up there.
PS all distances are by memory but should be reasonably accurate.

Recently stayed at Pimba and Stuart Range at Coober pedy. I can recommend both....they also cook great pizzas on site at the Stuart Range and I thought it was a reasonable price for the facilities provided. Also, they let you choose your own site.
Hi there, We passed through that way in June and we visited Woomera to see the rocket display too. We camped at Lake Hart and strolled down to the lake for a closer look - you cross over the railway line to do that. In Coober Pedy we stayed at the Oasis Caravan Park. With regards to pets their site says "conditions apply/manager's discretion". We don't have a pet so didn't look into that. As we were in a motor home we did the Sunset Tour that the CP hosted and we had a cuppa and a muffin while watching the sunset. The next morning we also did their town tour. We also did the full day tour to the Painted Desert with Arid Tours. It's done in a 4WD and takes 4. He provides morning tea and lunch and picked up from the CP. That we booked at the information centre. On Sundays the info. centre is open between 10am and 2pm if I remember correctly. There is also a mail run tour and more than one company does the Painted Desert. We had dinner one night at the RSL. There is also a drive in movie theatre. You can walk to then RSL and the drive in from the Oasis CP. We were happy with our stay at the Oasis CP and with the 3 tours we did. There is also a free camp at Coober Pedy. There is also a camp ground at one of the homesteads on the way out to the Painted Desert (just can't remember the name off the top of my head). We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Coober Pedy. We did our grocery shopping at the IGA before heading further north. Cheers.
Geoff, as you appear to be a first timer I would suggest forgetting Pimba and Glendambo. It's not far into Woomera. There are some good displays from the rocket days there. You can drive from Port A and still have time to see most things.
Diesel is available for around $1.25 at the port, $1.50 at Pimba/Glendambo and $1.40 at Coober Pedy according to Fuel Spy.
