Great Ocean Rd

We want to do the great ocean road area and wondering if anyone has got any good places to stay, also Pet friendly. Doesnt have to be on Great Ocean Rd and can be free camps or CP,s. Any suggestions appreciated

Thanks

Jasper

There are no free camps along this popular stretch of coast. Plenty of nice caravan parks on or near the ocean at Lorne, Anglesea & Port Campbell. Princetown Recreation Reserve is a nice quiet fairly cheap place to stay at the eastern end of the most popular 12 Apostle stretch of coast. We've stayed there a few times, lovely spot. Another alternative is to stay at the community donation camp at Panmure east of Warrnambool for 2-3 nights & use it as a base to day trip from. Great meals at the friendly pub which has a camp itself for patrons. We stayed at the community camp earlier this year & only found out about the camp at the pub when we went there for dinner. Other free camps not actually on the GOR are at Sawpit east of Portland & the mouth of the Fitzroy River on the coast east of Portland near Narrawong. West of Port Fairy there's a great small caravan park on the coast at Yambuk Lake. We've stayed at all of these places in recent years & they've all been good. Hope this helps, have fun!

Not a lot of freebies near or on the coast. Can recommend Killarney. Not the flashiest spot but dog friendly and a very, short & easy walk to the beach. Seniors discount. Says dogs must be on leash in park but as the ranger's dog wanders free, people who have dogs with good recall let them run about on the oval. The oval has a rabbit-proof fence about 2/3 way around and dogs play there. Killarney is a good spot to do a few day trips (Portland, Port Fairy, Warnambool, Tower Hill & Koroit).

Yambuk is good if you can climb the sand dune to the beach.
