Caravan insurance prices

I insured my Avan with YOUI about 2 years ago and the premium was over $400 - this years' premium was reduced to $268 for no apparent reason by YOUI.
Naturally I did not query the reduction and paid promptly!
Have had claim with YOUI on household and very happy but discontinued that policy when premium went thru the roof, however they are the cheapest for me with the van.
With RACQ now but only household, not cars.

Good Luck

we had been with CIL for a number of years but in recent times the price kept going up while the insured value decreased despite never having had a claim. But I have heard that they are very good should a claim arise. This year we changed to Ken Tame ( good reports also) and even though we had to join CMCA it was still much cheaper.
Inquired with 'pensioner' insurance a couple of yrs ago but they did not cover the van for floods so did not go with them.

Not that many insurers offer cover for caravans. I chose RACV, they have a good & long standing reputation and a significantly lower premium than CIL.

CIL is one of Suncorp's many brand names, as are AAMI, Bingle, GIO, Apia, Vero, among others. I know many insure their van with CIL, but experience taught me that Suncorp brands push the envelope with pricing, especially at renewal time - until you complain, then miraculously they have the scope to do a special deal for you! They no longer have any of my business.

Just shop around, your home state may also have some bearing.

I just went with RACV after 2 years with CIL, similar story as Jenny above , much higher premium, lower cover on renewal, rang around quite a few and RACV won the day.

Similar here was with CIL 10 years 1 claim for awning recently, premiums kept going UP while insured value went DOWN (old insurance trick) so now with RAA is SA. Agreed value not market value and saved 25-30%.

Good point Baz, I forgot to mention mine is agreed value with RACV. Also with similar premium savings to yours. Sounds like all the state auto clubs might be pretty similar in their offerings.

RACQ for everything. Home. Cars. Van. Boats. Trailer.

NOT the cheapest.
But ALL agreed value and INSTANT recovery when things go wrong.
Cyclones mainly.

Ask around Friends\Neighbors. AFTER a Cyclone. Weather hic-cup.

That'll tell you WHO to go with.

RACQ - had one claim for damage when I backed into our camper. No questions asked, could use a repairer of choice. I use them also for the car but unlike macka, I dropped them from the house insurance for two reasons.
They determined we in Townsville needed flood insurance even in zero risk areas, the price more than doubled. Mine was $1200 but their new charge was $2700!
Also people who were with them & had their houses wrecked by TC Yasi had to wait for their cheaper contractors to finish their work in NSW before heading north. So affected people of Cardwell were living in make-shift accommodation for over twelve months. There is only one insurer for houses in tropical Qld but it's not RACQ!

We are insured with RACV as we have all our insurances with them, no claims so far.

We here good reports about insurance Car and Van insurance with Ken Tame.

My brother says there is only one good Insurance Company, the one that pays out claims.

We're with the RAA and have found them to be excellent. Our vehicles, caravan, house and household as well as security are with them. We also get a major discount with them for multiple policies and for being such long time members.

Dear Members.
As my knowledge is Very limited in the Ins. game but I am sure that
one or many of our members has the expertise in order for a proposition of BALK billing. If it can be done with our services, Gas and Electricity surely this could be done for the Grey Nomads Insurances. If the caravan industry is worth 19$ Billion and there are approx 25% of ownership, surely this would be a sweetener for any Ins. Company. With 233,000 approx, Caravan owners and 70,000 approx, Camper vans in Australia with the industry is still growing and not mentioning our house Ins that could be slotted in. At this moment we are insured with Coles Ins. and recently we inquired about some damage done to our van front where a stick came up and pierced it. This repair is at $600 and we were informed that to cover this we would have to pay $650. [Read between the lines] As many of the forms to understand one needs a Philadelphia Lawyer to decipher the content and had we claimed I am sure that our premiums would have increased.
This needs a Grey Nomad with a bit of the Grey Matter.
Yours truly Alex.

Not knowing what State you are in

I had RAC Western Australia, fully comprehensive caravan insurance, for many years

I never made a claim, so unable to say how good/bad they are

Also may I just say, welcome to the forum to both Rusty 1956, and Alpod
