Storage Ideas?

Hi All,

We're new to the Forum and just gearing up to pack up the house and store all of our worldly possessions (& some of the kids :) ).

We currently live in Sydney and as we are planning on being away for 1-2 years are looking for some good cheap storage.

Does anyone have any recommendations I'm finding it all a bit daunting.

Thanks in advance.

The Batchies

We found the cheapest form of storage were shipping containers - less than $2000 delivered. Put one or more in the kids backyard (if they still exist in the big smoke). Failing the kids maybe you know someone who has room for a container. When you return from your jaunt just sell the container generally for what you paid for it.

Good Luck.

Container is the way to go. Some storage yards that store trucks, caravans, boats etc. may offer cheaper rent than the lockup individual storage sheds.

The container can be a good secure lock-up workshop should you have room in a yard when you return.

Hi The Batchies.

We are off doing the "Big Lap" after Christmas. I did some initial research and eventually decided on a 40ft sea container.

Storage of $3000.00 for the year, plus pickup and delivery: a total of $5000.00. So here is my solution; which will not suit everybody.

I advertised our home "For Rent" on the GN website under property for sale/rent; "Fully Furnished" (it`s all insured)

The weekly rent included power, water, gas and lawn mowing. The net result to us will be equivalent to Caravan Park fees for the week.

We live south of Perth, WA.

We will lock off 1 bedroom for personal stuff which was stated in the add.

We have rented our home to GN`s for the year and we will take of on the 15 Jan, 2018.

The couple who are renting our home are full time GN`s, referred us to their Blog, sound/seem like lovely people and provided referees for us to investigate.

From their first phone call we had a good feeling and have "locked" it in.

A bit off topic to your post re storage, but thought I would put my similar situation out there for you info.

Regards.

Hetho.

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your recommendations. We were thinking containers were the way to go. I'll carry on with my investigations.
