Coming over in late Jan. next year. Should be up around Cairns in late March and thinking of driving up to Cooktown over a five maybe six day period. Any advice on where to go and where to avoid would be great !!
It will still be a little hot and humid in March so bring clothes to suit the climate.
If you are towing I would not recommend the Bloomfield Track. In fact the creek crossings may have too much water for 4WDs to negotiate that early in the year. If the wet is late finishing then it could be very damp up there.
I would suggest spending most of your 6 days in the Mossman (or Port Douglas) and explore the Daintree area from there. It is then only one days drive to Cooktown even with a little sight seeing on the way. Mossman Gorge is worth a mornings look.

I will be driving an ordinary camper, just a van conversion. Driving all the way up from Sydney and Cooktown being my last stop before I head back down.
You can get a camper along the Bloomfeild track on a good day. Done it ourselves in a ford transit van camper.
On a bad day, however, a Unimog would be washed away. So play it as you see it...........
