We just got back from 8500ks with the kids from Brissy to the Centre then up to FNQ return - loved it! Everything went well, a few little hiccups and lots of lessons learned, hints and tips from fellow travelers. Had a ball. When cooking outside, we had a real issue with lighting. We've got this little LED and this cover, quite a normal set up from what I can tell. Do I just need more watts from a globe or do away with the set up and replace with something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance. Stenno
Just buy one that fits with the Yellow chips rather than the cheap little white things.
They give MUCH more light
Ebay IS your friend.
Otherwise a different outside light with a LOT more output are again.
Cheap as chips and a 20 to 30 day wait.
I'm buying Torches, That in Aust are $150 to 250 and more.
For no more than $50 on net. Mostly around $25\35.
Just don't have the fancy electronics in them. That most don't want anyway.
Low. High. Strobe. Is fine.
We fitted one exactly the same bulb as your picture into a lamp unit also identical to yours. It replaced a 15w incandescent bulb and puts out more light than the previous bulb.
They do not need to be superbright - the brighter they are the more they attract insects at night. Ours is used to illuminate a fold down table attached to the side of our Avan when cooking outside and also turn it on when visiting the facilities at night.
Bottom line is they work A1 for us.
Howdy Stenno, Welcome to the Forum, I had the same problem with outside lighting on our Coromal when we first bought it, soon solved that by going onto Evilbay and buying a couple of very bright strip LED's ,
they were very cheap, only cost around $25-30 pr and measure around 500mm in length, one I fitted over the door and the other over the dining table inside the van, I'm very happy with the result and they have been installed for well over a year now........
If you look at the auction section in LED Lighting on Ebay, you could pick up a bargain very cheap, with a bit of luck.
P.S. I've just had a look on ebay, here's some up for auction very similar to mine......
Awesome KJ - that's the kind of lighting we need outside!! I do take Hako's point of attracting insects but I'll take a punt anyway. I'll get onto Ebay and have a look. Thank you!
I have a led globe in the standard outside light housing but stuck a strip of led's on the outside wall and taped into the light switch inside so I could have a soft outside light or could light up the world, depending on the need....For the bugs I sling a small fluro off the ute and all the bugs go to it....

Actually.
I use the outside light fitting to a 5 mtr (you can shorten) LED Self adhesive
Light strip.
Does full length of van Hides under rolled up roll out.
Uses around zilch, power wise.
Am in process of adding 1\2 mtr LED strips to the existing interior lights too.
Taking off their wiring.
White light is soooo much nicer that faded yellow. I reckon.
I use whichever dealer carries what I want.
Just bring them up.
Then on top of EBAY Page. R.H.S. His name.
Beside it. in Brackets a %%%age.
Anybody in the 99+%
USUALLY fine.
Costing is practically in the cents,
and freight is usually. Around 30 days (china)
SO DON'T be impatient. Usually arrive the week AFTER the one you expecting.
Ebay covers faulty. lost in mail. not as described.
If paying Paypal. You get insurance too.
PLUS. They can lean on dealers. IE Freeze their accounts for period of time.
It's pretty safe nowadays.
I also have some LED car lights too for ute.
Already have 20in single row LED bar on front.
Lights up whole neighborhood when I turn it on.
Rear lights next.
PS. You can buy Multiple colours. OR
Mate did white and Yellow strips outside.
Uses to suit fly populations.
Here's a simple fix using the existing fitting, powered by a Super Bright 5630 LED that draws less than 3 watts and is Multi Volt so can be used on a 12 or 24 volt system. Pic Above shows the 9SMD version however also available in a 12 SMD or brighter again with a 15 SMD. The 12 SMD is recommended is the equivilent of a 35 Watt Halogen but uses less than 4 watts. The G4 mount on the Converter is adjustable so you can angle the light down slightly into the required area.
