Why is it that signs saying "No Dogs" are placed in the area that you've just traveled to and not sign posted before you get there? Take for example Etty Bay the signs leading to it did not indicate it was a national park and you only discover that when you get there. Then you're confronted with yet another sign "No Dogs Past This Point" with no option to turn around and forced to break the rules to drive in and turn around.

I would not think there would be a problem has long has your dog stayed in your motorhome and didn't get out of your motorhome while you turn around , To nice of place to good to miss.
If it is a gazetted road a bona fide traveller can pass through with pets.
It is my understanding that domesticated animals may be within 6 metres of the centreline of any gazetted road (even some dead end roads are within this category and rule) Check with the Nat parks in the state you are in, as daft as it seems "national parks" are not National in their rules and regulations.
Many signs are not legally enforceable ether but that does not stop the enforcers pushing their bluff on the unknowing.
Protecting wildlife is critical and whilst children (in my opinion) do far more damage than a dog on a lead their parents are not discriminated against.
Not related to parks and reserves, but we have a policy, if the camping area is not pet friendly we won't even buy a coffee in town.
We travel extensively with two pups and a cat (lives inside the motorhome and we walk her on a lead) We respect the environment we travel through and do so responsibly.
There are lots of state and forestry reserves without these restrictions so I don't think we miss out on much avoiding the national parks and the pet friendly people we meet (generally free camping) are some of the best on the road.
