This happened yesterday to a friend. He Went online to the Queensland Transport and Main Roads website to double check about registering a brand new 6x4 trailer. Under 750Kgs.
Self assessment form and new trailer registration forms. Take to Transport Office.
Got there told rules have changed and have to take trailer to be inspected.
Big ads on their website proudly announcing you can now do twenty nine different things Online. Pay for this and that.
My friend texted me and asked me to contact the TMR by phone. Got an Australian helpdesk. That bit was good.
Explained the problem in case the RTA office got it wrong.
No, lots of things changed on July 1st. Mostly increases in fees.
I told him about having to take the trailer into the office. No he said, you don't have to. Upshot put on hold while he double checked and yes, take it in to be visually inspected.
My gripe.
They want you to follow laws and procedures and do things online to save them costs.
WHY don't they update their website with the new rules etc.?
These days everything wants you to do things online, Centerlink, banks etc. They say it's simpler but it's not, it's just purely a cost cutting exercise.
