Hiring a canoe up the gorges is a highlight. If not closed with croc,s.

Also. If you go on a "tour" up the Gorges.
Make sure they take you past or into the third.
Nice place for a flyover too.
even with a "wheel less" aryplane. (Cessna)

G'day Bas + Eve

We have always stayed at the Shady Lane cp which is on thee gorge road. The owners are lovely people and will do much to assist. I advise booking a few days to a week in advance as the park is quite popular.

We like it also because it is a few Km out of town and away from the locals.

hope that helps

Frank

We prefer no caravan parks if possible. A different experience is to stay at Manbulloo Station, only 11 kms out of Katherine off the Victoria Hwy. Spacious, green grass , friendly people. Camp under huge Mahogany Trees. Enjoy.

Edith Falls is well worth the look. No canoeing in the first gorge, as of last week. Gorge tour is reasonable value for money but my opinion is spoilt by canoeing the first seven gorges a couple of years ago. You can still hire canoes above the first rapids.

Warning - a huge flying fox camp is at the gorge camp ground, as of a week ago. The F Foxes poo on everything and the stink is hard to take.

Another vote for Manbulloo.

Not expensive ( can't remember the actual fees ).

A great, safe place to explore the Katherine area from.

The museum at the old airport is a great way to spend quite some time at. Lots of old machinery.
